The 1/4 scale sidewinder missile gets a lot of attention . PS Never put a mouse in the clear payload rocket. They don't handle it to well....

We were big fans of the "D" engines. We made our rockets from scratch.
There were cardboard tubes that held little brass rods at the hobby store, and the guy saved them all year for us. D engines fit in almost perfectly.

If you were anything like me, you know what we used to do with empty Co2 cartridges. Yeah, they went in the rockets.

Needless to say, our rockets weren't recoverable.

I'm familiar with the confetti recovery method . I had a 3 stage rocket (my first one) I didn't know about the zero delay thing for multi stage. That thing shot up about 600 ft.started at apagy , ignited the 2nd right about horizontal screamed out about 600 more feet then slowly pointed downward and lit off the 3rd stage straight towards the ground it made a pretty distinct noise after impact . we packed up and left in record Tyme. They called some people ... To come have a look at it our fine craftsmanship.

Never had the desire to waste a mixer . And that is a little on the weak side... But if you take that empty bottle over to the cutting torch and gave it a puff of acetyline and a put a fuse in the cap. Thats entertainment.

I ment as propellant. I prefer sparklers over acetylene. That stuff is to unstable and I like what toes and fingers I have left.

I once had the ex light one. It carried a whole array of goodies from sparkler bits, jumping jacks, match heads, blackcats, and whatever else.
She hated the rockets, and they hated her.
It launched, went about 5 feet in the air, and took a left turn for Albuquerque. It went through the old folks bedroom window across the street.

We all scampered like cockroaches.
Needless to say, we also had some of our local finest arrive to document the exciting display they must have witnessed in the darkness of their sleeping quarters.

Miraculously, no one ever contacted the cockroaches.

Google search calcium carbide in shopping the low price guy last week my not be this week. Typically it's an eBay seller. it was 20.00 a pound last tyme I bought some.

I liked playing with rockets. I used the C engine ( maybe C-5?) I don't recall exactly. The only modification I made was in the recovery system. It was a cheapo streamer recovery rocket and I made a plastic bag parachute for it instead.

So the real fun was trying to see how close you could get it to return. As high as it would go, and being several minutes of return time with that parachute, at times I would launch at close to a 30° angle and have it nearly land at my feet.

Me and a buddy used to build tube chassis out if brass tubing and put d motors on them. We'd tie the wires together and light them at the same time as a drag race. It was cool to watch but they went so far so fast that we never really knew who won, and we lost quite a few "cars". Had to straight up dodge them at times. One of my favorite moments with them was when we blasted a window on the second story insurance company next door. They about spazzed.

My highschool welding teacher said he used calcium carbide in baby jars with rocks. Go to river fill with water and seal lid. I guess they make great underwater bombs.

Terrible news today..
The Pillsbury dough boy died. At the tender age of 75. He is survived by his 3 children. John Dough , Jane Dough and Dill . His wife has one in the oven. The cause of death was a chronic yeast infection that was agitated by years of tramatic belly poking. The service will be held tomarrow at 3:50 for about 20 min.
