I started fooling around with this the other night. I expelled the remaining propellant and cut the top open.
On this one, there's no liner. But there IS a propellant cartridge inside. I was able to work the cartridge out fairly easily, but there's a little plastic "cup" that it mounts to. This cup appears to be glued to the bottom of the canister.
I left a quart of acetone sitting in it for a couple of days to see if it would either dissolve the glue, plastic, or both. No joy.
On the chance it's hot glue, my next move is to gently heat the bottom of the canister (from the outside), and see if I can work the bracket off.
I'll put up a pic later showing the filler cap I'm going to use.
EDIT- Hot glue it is. I sat the can upside down, and pointed my heat gun at it. 10 seconds later- plop! Out it fell.
Now- another note for those with concerns, like Bighead. It is fairly thin, I'd put it as 1.5-2x as thick as a pop can. but it is stainless steel, which is a lot more puncture resistant than aluminum. I have put a significant amount of thought into mounting details, and I believe I have devised a suitable method. Yes, I believe this should be mounted in an impact-protected location. Should I choose to actually use this on one of my projects, it will be so. For now, it is merely and experiment.
Marine-type fuel filler...
