I came up with this as a concept for my scooter but it never got built.

Ya know, if I could figure out a good steering system for that, I'd build it and throw my 5hp on it.

That would be cool but I have way too many engines looking for homes as it is. :rolleyes3:

Could someone think up a better steering system and draw it out for me? There's got to be someone on here that has an idea...

That's the thing, I'd like to keep the "low-budget" look, so that wouldn't work.

The steering joint worked, you would just need to re-design the front end with more normal rake.
Here's a quick drawering...

the rat moped steering

That is exactly the way I was going to do front steering, but I chose to leave it stationary. I might be worried about the bolts coming loose, though, with that design. I found out the hard way that when you make something out of wood and without spending any money a big motor tends to make bolts do lots of funny things :ack2: . Not to discourage anybody but I have had several issues to sort out regarding bolts on my rat moped:worried2: . Go for it, though!

Y'all are Krazy- in a good way.... i love the mt dew holder. and the chiken wire death trap with pop-a-wheelie steering looks like something i would build, so i think i have come to the right place. as soon as i get done building a treehouse "with" my soon to be 9 year old, "we" are going to build some kind of motorized contraption. got a free battery operated quad runner off of craigslist, so "we're" going to strip it for parts. dang ting didn't come with a charger, so i'm looking into that, then we'll see if the bettery is shot or not. all good fun, and i need to keep my kid off the sofa- unfortunately he likes the idea of the finished project more than the work part- me, i like the challenge of building stuff outta whatever i can scavenge for free, so 3 parts treasure hunt, 2 parts creative outlet. anyway, glad y'all are here, and i'll be back. hopefuly soon- got most of the treehouse materials, and started the foundation- after that, it should go quick, and i should be able to motivate my youngster more. i told him if he doesn't help, i'm gonna put a lock on it and deny him access to My treehouse- same deal with our motor vehicle project. :bannana:

I wish I had started learning stuff about karts when I was 9:rolleyes3:. Hope your project works out- put pictures on the photo gallery if you finish it!! Sorry to say I had to take the rat moped apart yesterday, the engine snapped a couple bolts loose and I stopped dead in my tracks:oops: . Too powerful! I got a lot of fun out of it, between the burnouts and the wheely, so it was well worth it.
