Started as this, now I have enough parts to do a mock up. This suicide machine will be the hardest to control 1wd vehicle on here when I'm done.

Current build cost:

$7 frame
$8 chain
$1 half link
$15 in carb parts
$3 in muffler clamps
$10 tire tube
$10 in fuel filter and shutoff

All other parts, FREE

Especially interesting part supplies:

Brake handle pivot pin is a piece of power wheels axle.
PCV valve is an old one from my moms minivan.
Light switch for a kill switch.

Some general specs.

8 Hp briggs hor shaft motor
3 spd peerless w/ reverse and tiny mech disk brake.
8:32 final drive with mismatched 15 inch tires on the back 1wd
Est. weight w/ engine, trans, and seat under 120lbs

Looks like I will have to buy 1 cable(or maybe 2) and a pulley. I have everything else. Top speed will be roughly 20mph, more with a smaller pulley on the trans. There will be a lot of SWAGing going on during this build.

My friend silly cone made this rim tubeless.

You know how freight trains burn oil? Yea, about that.

Seat will need to pivot for...

The 1970 starter!

Peerless 500 series.

Thinking of adding a knobby to the front, moar grip.

Or perhaps a ski?

20mph? i have one of those trannies available to me, and i've seen the 8sp w/rev. the one mower used about a sixty tooth wheel sprocket on diff. i figured 5-7mph. also most say they won't hold up to the rpms. i'd love to see 'em proved wrong!

Looks like a peerless 700, a popular racing mower tranny, they hold up just fine.

Its a peerless 500, a 3 speed 700(same cases IIRC), a lil weaker than a 700, but plenty good enough for the power it will see, and its really worn out. Has water in the case, way too much end play on the input shaft, main bushings are pretty worn too. I pulled the cover off once to make sure the shift keys are alright and the gears aren't chipped, all is well. One day I might rebuild it and race prep for the hell of it, get some high quality chain for the reverse drive so I don't blow it up.

I just can't believe nobody has given me crap for running it on its side!

Nah it wil be fine on its side if you spend the time to race prep it first so it gets the lube it needs all over.

The frame was just sort of sitting around, then one day I was putting that 8 horse in storage and it hit me like a ton of bricks that I had almost everything laying around already.

Still have to mount engine(have the plate welded in, just gotta drill), seat, and safety shields, hook up cables, set up clutch, build and install brake pedal, and wire kill. Found some misc. cables to string together for my brakes. Gonna use a light switch for my kill.

Maybe this weekend it will be drivable, it WILL be finished before snow sticks to the ground. After its drivable, I just gotta put the knobby on the front and wrap the drive tire for snow use.
