This is a necessity for setting and checking gaps for coils, CDI packs, ring end gaps, points, crankshaft end play, etc., etc.
To use anything else would just be a guess. Prices vary from $5 to $25 depending on accuracy and amount of gauges contained in set. Good for inch as well as metric.

I just bought me one at Kragens auto parts on monday for like $6. Comes with 26 different gauges. I know that it's really a necessity for accurate measurements.

Ohh god you cant eyeball plug gap. But you can pretty much eyeball a coil to fly wheel distance if thats all you can do.
