Tecumsa problems

All right I will exsplaine this as best as I can: When I start it up it starts to go and usually runs for 5-15 seconds and then it dies all of a sudden. I opened up the card and cleaned it out and it still does this So I thought hay maybe it's not getting gas good so I took the tank off and held it directly above the carb still nothing. I noticed that if you keep pushing the plunger to prime it it will usually stay running. So my thought is that for some reason the gas is not going in. Any thoughts on why this is???

Gas line seems fine when i unhook it all the gas pores out. My float seems all right too it moves freely...

Have you messed with your carb settings? if not both needles should be 1.5 turns out to get it started, than you can tune it from there.

Can you take a few pictures of your carb? Also try turning the mixture screw out more.

Sorry no can do no camera... And what exactly is the mixture screw??? Like I said not good with motor terms...

My float seems all right too it moves freely...

To check this, bowl would have to be removed by removing the high speed needle assembly. Does that assembly have a screw which can be adjusted? Or is it blank with a number stamped on it?
Is float plastic or brass?

No screw I don't think??? And I pretty sure my float is plastic.

Hey guys I fixed it!!! I was so stupid the problem was that i didn't have an air filter on it!!! No filter=no suction=no gas getting in the engine!!!

Nope. Didn't fix anything. Any engine will run anytime without air filter. Some in this forum believe engines run better without them. A false assumption.
Filter does not create "suction". Should be free-flowing or invisible.
If anything, filter is clogged to the point it's behaving like a choke.
You may have bigger problems than you think.
Could be just coincidental.

Yea but don't you have to have suction on the back of you're carb other wise the gas won't get sucked in??? When I put my hand over it and push it up against the carb and then let go if i keep doing this and only let so much air in it runs perfectly fine.

like Affair_driven said, the air filter shouldn't cause much of a restriction in air flow.
unless they made the carb and air filter to work together like that, where the carb actually needs a restriction in airflow (choke) to work properly so it isnt run w/o the filter. but i doubt it.

a carburetor generally has all the restriction it needs built into it, the venturi.

is the air filter clean? if it is, and its working fine with it on, then just run it that way i guess lol


ive had my share of pain-in-the-you-know-where Tecumseh carbs
come to think of it... i have way more Briggs engines than Tecumseh engines, and the only probs i remember having with carbs are the Tecumsehs!

What is model number of Tecumseh? Should be HXX-xxxxxx.
X's would be numbers following the H.
Example: H50-65000K

That's the thing it doesn't actually have a filter on it!!! But when I use my hand to create a little suction and then let go and then a little suction and then let go the motor runs fine.
