Glad to find you guys. I'm on about week 6 of trying to make a Yerfdog funcart run. Got 3 small kids and I am determined to get it going. I had no prior knowledge of small engines or drive trains but hey, learning keeps us young, right? And is a little cheaper....
After messing with the original Tecumseh OHH65 for about a month -- cleaning then replacing the carb and giving it a valve job (a couple of times) only to have the original issue of gas shooting out the carb's air intake with every crank, I decided for time's sake I'd purchase the good old HF 212CC Predator and all would be good. (I'm still determined to get that Tecumseh running though).
So it is still sitting in the garage but I'm learning at every step. I now know what an assymetrical cogged belt is and what it fits on and what a Comet Torq A Verter is and what a driver and driven are.
So I just ordered a 1 1/2" longer belt, hoping that will do the trick, except that I also need about a 1/2" spacer for the driver to line up with the driven, and have to do a little work to get the throttle cable working right and have to figure out where the kill switch should connect on this Predator.
And if I can keep air in the tires, I should be able to get them in the wind by Christmas!! But I am really enjoying it. Mostly. If I had a welder I'd be dangerous.

The Tecumseh is proberbly out of time

Take the side cover off
The side where the pto sticks out (not the pull starter side)

There will be two gears
Ones connected to the crank
One on the cam

As u spin the crank there should be a dot that lines up with one or two dots on the cam
Yours may be out of line

Welcome to the forum. It is great to hear that you are enjoying the rebuild.

With a Comet TC, belt length is always critical. If you get one too long or too short, it is just not going to work for you. What you do is measure the center to center distance between the driven and the driver. Then you have to determine which TC you have. Look at THIS link to find out. Then you have a look at THIS link for the type of belt that you need

As for the throttle hookup, have a look at these links:

Someone will be able to give you a better description of the kill switch installation, as I do not have a predator

Perfect examples of why I joined! These are excellent replies! fowler, that is something I haven't tried (because I didn't know to try it). But I will. Having the Tecumseh off the go kart will make it a lot easier to fix.
landuse, what you said verifies what I was thinking and finding out but it helps a great deal to have someone experienced to say it! Putting that Predator on changed the profile just enough that the manco #5959 belt (about 27 3/8") wouldn't continue to work. I ordered the next size up in the smallest increment I could find which seems to fit the technical specs chart I found. It is the comet #203591 about 29.25". Center to center driver to driven is about 6 3/4" and the driven is a 7". If this belt doesn't work, then I guess I'll have to reposition the engine or the driven and possibly change the length of the chain?
I'm not a fabricator (boy I wish I was, and one day I will be) but cutting a simple bushing and putting it on the driver shaft to get the driver away from the engine about a half inch shouldn't be a problem, right? the shaft on the predator is shorter than the Tecumseh but the driver also sits closer to the engine, putting the driver out of line with the driven by about 1/2" to 3/4".
I'll post a few pics tonight hopefully. Where should I do that? Thank you guys so much.
