Hey All!
I'm going to do an R&R on my TC tomorrow and I ran across this about pre-loading the spring on reassembly:
REASSEMBLE:

1) Insert the spring tang in the number one hole of the fixed cam, place the spring and cam down over the post of the fixed post and only push the fixed cam down about ¼” at this time. (Do not push it down all the way)

2) Rotate the movable face (the part that contains the buttons) 120 degrees, 1/3 of a turn counter clockwise if it has a blue or red spring, clockwise if it has a green spring.

3) Once rotated, hold in the moveable face so it doesn’t back off, push the fixed cam down all the way and replace the retaining ring.

4) Return the driven unit to the jackshaft.

My Max torque page doesn't say anything about it on reassembly. Is this something you have to do on all makes or just certain ones? Thanx in advance...

Yes you must pre load any and every driven pulley in a CVT it wont work otherwise.

Thanx man! I just took it for a run and I believe thats working ok. Now I think I have issues with the driver. My belt was way loose and just keeps slipping. I noticed the gap in the driver was real wide. Redoing it again. I also noticed I dont have the driver bushing that goes on the fixed sheave unless its welded itself on there. Any Ideas?

The bushing is a little bronze thing, should be easily identified on a steel pulley.

It's not there but it seems the driver is working ok anyway.

However, after another ride it, seems that the driven unit doesn't slide back and forth on the shaft bearing to easy. It's getting hung up in the wide position making the belt look like it's to big. I think I have enough pretension on it. My spring is black it looks like and I put the spring tang in the spot #2 where it came from. I turned it clockwise. I've dry lubed with that comet lube. The cams and the other deals look good. I'll take it apart again tomorrow.

So here is my problem. On a restart it just sits there slipping away. Sometimes if you keep goosing it, it may catch. Any ideas?

It isnt preloaded if you can easily separate the two halves, it should take some force to get the stuff into position and hold it while you reinstall the clip.

It was a doosie to get on but I'll redo it anyway and clean the shaft better. I'm gonna cook some belts without that driver bushing aren't I? The sheave walls are pretty shot too. I'm just trying not to buy a new set up but it looks like I'm gonna have to.:nopity: I can't get individual replacement parts for it, just the whole set up. Thanx for your help and patience. I'll keep ya posted tomorrow...

What the whole setup cost ya? Looks ot me like a comet 30 series (under $180) should drop right in. You can get every part for the comet individually.

$140 and change plus shipping and add $25 for a belt. The company Pres.(the owner) gave me some info and I will post it in a new post.

I'm still going to use the replacements but I am going to redo the driven unit again tonight or tomorrow just for my own peace of mind. I'll let you know how things turn out...:sifone:

EDIT: Re-did things on the driven today and I didn't have enough load on the spring like you said. Took it for a test spin and noticed that the driver was hung up causing the driven to stay open and making me stall. Probably from being run without that driver bushing. Anyhoo, new ones are on the way. I'm adding a little post on to the new one that's interesting. Let you know how the new set-up works...
