Well, everyone is out of stock on 3/4" TCs. I can't wait til the end of august for one. HF is having a sale and the 11HP is on sale for 259, and the 13Hp for 299.
Only problem is, the engine is the biggest dent in my pocket and spending 300 on the 40 series TC is not happening.
I searched a little and found some hope but no definite answers.

Anyone do this? I plan on going to HF tomorrow and getting the engine. I might just get the 11hp.
If it can't be done then I'll just suck it up and get another 6.5 and rig up my jack shaft for my street cart.

what are you asking here? if its if a engine will work with a tav it depends on the shaft size.

I know it will work. It comes in a 1 inch shaft setup. The TAV2 is only rated to 8hp. But I read that some people have run it way upwards of 16hp... but nobody says if they blow it up or not.

Yeah $30 for belts is expensive. I'm still trying to rebuild the comet 20 on my yerf, but having a hard time getting the parts for it.

If your gonna spend $300 on an engine, then another 140 on a TAV, why not just get a motorcycle or sled engine?

As for it working, i dont see why not, people run heavily modded clones with the TAV2.

I don't want to seem pushy, and I like shiny new parts as much as the next guy but have you looked at the Torque converter I have in the for sale section? http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=4430
It's been well used, has a few dings where the chain rubbed the pulley, but it looks like it has lots of life left in it, and I wont have to opportunity to use it in the foreseeable future.

Unless you're just using not being able to get a tc for a 3/4" shaft as an excuse to go to a 13hp, in that case go for it

I've being using my mod'd GX200 around 14 HP with a TAV-2-30 for a awhile now. Works great just tends to shift out realy fast with the high RPM and Torque. You might have to drill a 4th or 5th hole in the secondary cam/helix for more spring tension.

I dont know where people get sled engines. But around here were lucky if we get 6 inches of snow a year. As far as a motorcycle engine. I would love to use one. The power would be awesome. But ive checked every junk yard in the area and craiglist and nobody has an engine that runs, the best are junk yard engines that are stripped of their carbs and are shot and would cost more then a new crate engine to rebuild.

it looks like my only hope is to just wait it out or buy a engine and 1inch tc, right now i wont have the money for both for atleast another week or so.

i would love to buy that tc youre selling, but ive had bad experiences with forum sellings and tend to shy away from them at all possiblities.

Yeah I understand you never really know who your dealing with and I have no way of testing it to know how well it works (I know it's in much better shape then the one that was on my Yerf Dog and that one worked pretty good despite the driven pulley being really beat up) I thought about putting it on Ebay to give the buyer some protection but I hate to pay their fees.

Ebay isnt bad, you can list 5 free things a month, you do have to pay if you want extra pics or buy it now prices, but its not bad.

Yeah but 8.75% of the closing value is a bit steep for me . plus I think paypal starts charging to use their services when you become a seller, though I haven't looked into it.

i would use a tav unit. you can get them from bmikarts.com for $150. i called comet and asked them what it would hold up to, the tech told me it was good for about 15 hp maybe more but the under rate them. he really couldn t tell me much about rpm but he said it should matter, once you get p in the higher rpms the belt should be locked in and not slip. i will be putting on m homemade buggy with a 15hp controlled stock flathead racing engine. when i race it i turn it about 8500 to 9000rpm. so we shall see

also i d forget about a sled engine or motorcycle engine. yeah it would be great to find one, but most i have seen local or even on ebay are $500+ and some (most) dont even run.

a good engine built will run for a long time and be a good starter. to me it kind of would be a waste of time unless you have a kart with full suspension to have a sled engine. also after doing some research on atv engines, i have 3 polaris 250cc atvs (trailboss, trailblazer, and a xplorer 4x4) and they only make 25 hp. full tilt (if you can still find performance parts) they make close to 50hp. now i am sure the bigger motors make more (hell some of the new ones make 150+) but they are meant for a sled.

i was just at tractor supply again looking at go karts and i am going to be getting the vector w/ a 6hp subaru motor. i am staying away from the 150cc atv engines #1 where do you get parts for them, and #2 i know i can make a 6.5hp clone make 15 to 20 hp for around a grand (price difference between the 2 go karts) plus the 150cc engines i come to find out only make 9 hp.

i am just rambling......

Hello,

I just bought the same engine today (13 HP) at HF! Boy that engine is huge and I cant wait to fire it up. I also have a 30 series but I have not installed it. Ironically, I just opened up a thread regarding this issue and from what I have heard it will be fine to use ur existing 30 series as long as the driver has a 1 inch shaft. If u go to HF be sure to ask for a display model as I got the 13 HP display for $210 with a 20% off coupon. Good luck!

Oh and anyone saying these engines only rev to 2400 on the gov has his information wrong. It clearly states on the box it runs at 3600 rpms just like a 6.5hp.

Apparently everyone is out of stock on all comet parts. So I wont be driving this cart until the end of the month.

So were you going with a 30 series or a 40 series? If you're going with a 30 series here's one it's a bit pricey but they say it's in stock and shipping would be free http://www.quickieparts.com/go-kart...ies/1-inch-bore-10-teeth-for-40-41-chain.html or if you wanted to cobble something together you could buy the driver pulley and belt from that site and I have a driven pulley on a jackshft/engine plate that needs buttons a snap ring and maybe a spring I'd sell for 25+shipping.

I got it in yesterday, installed it with some mods and holy ****! It kicks butt off the line, 11hp rocks!...then just bogs out at maybe 20mph. It went faster on a cent clutch and a 6.5hp motor!

Is it bogging down or topping out how many teeth were on your cent clutch compared to your tav. You might also try moving the spring on your driven pulley to the next hole and if that helps a little you could probably add another hole to put even more tension on it. With that much power it might be transitioning to high gear at too low of a speed.
