Ok so we all know the belt that comes with the eBay 30 series converter is junk. Mine is about done for with 10ish hours of riding.
I got a belt that's supposed to be a 30 series replacement from tractor supply (I have one a mile from home). The belt is a "Masters of motion" belt and the part number is 5959H. This is supposed to be the same as a 203589a belt. The problem is, is that it is too long. It works, but slips until rolling 5-10mph from a stop. It is longer out of the box than the worn out cheap belt that came with it.

Did I get a bad belt or is this not correct at all? Is the comet 203589 belt the same length as the cheap belt that came with the kit, or is it longer as well?

I measured my setup as comet describes on there website from center of each shaft. I've got a 6in driven pulley, and the length from shaft to shaft is 6 11/16 inches. Am I buying the wrong belt?

I have had the cheap belt on my barstool racer for 2+years now and no issues and it has 11hp. You should check your gearing ratio while your there.

It's 5:1 ratio. 10t on the back of the converter, and a 50t rear sprocket on a 19in tire.

Your gear ratio is too tall for 19" tires.

You should be at at least a 6:1, if not closer to 7:1.

There's a good chance the belt is wrong too, but it's hard to say.

The belt is a "Masters of motion" belt and the part number is 5959H. This is supposed to be the same as a 203589a belt.

Who ever told you that is WRONG!

the 5959 is a Manco only (masters of motion) size, it's 27 1/2 in circumference.(IIRC.. maybe a hair smaller)

the 3589 is the TAV2 belt it's 27 3/8 in circumference

they are close thus they can be easily mistaken yes.. but the different NUMBER surely tells you about their different size!

'sid

PS some belt (censored *cough*) mfgs even put both numbers on a belt that's half way in between the two (say 27.4something") to save on tooling. AVOID THOSE!

So I went to BMI today (hour north of me). They had comet 3589 belts, and were STILL longer than the 669 belt that came with it, by a decent bit. I ended up getting another 669.
I also got a stage 1 kit and a new green spring for the driven pulley, as well as a 9t sprocket for the jackshaft (I had a 10t). They didn't have any sprockets that fit that was in the 60-72t range. The spring that came with it was red, and shorter than the factory comet green spring, which is why I got the spring. I also had to add another washer behind the drive pulley, as it was slightly off center from the driven pulley. This is probably why I wore out the original belt so fast.
So my new gear ratio is 5.55. All this made a MASSIVE difference. I'm 6ft tall and weigh about 215-220lb. I'm struggling bad to keep the front end down from a stop even with leaning on the handlebars, and it will still do 43mph(gps).
Should I really go for a 6:1 ratio? I most certainly don't want a 7:1 after feeling the difference from 5 to 5.5:1. I also don't want to lose my 40mph+ capability.

Edit* This is on a Coleman ct200uex with a 212 hemi predator if this makes a difference.

A minibike is light so you should be ok. Go karts need the ratio due to size and weight. And glad it’s fixed. Enjoy the summer riding.
