after several issues with my model 30 tav the jack shaft has broken in half! plus its the only thing I havent rebuilt or replaced on this cart, so Im asking advise on what to replace it with? the cart is a Yerf dog model 3202 with suspention and roll cage, it came with a 6.5 powersport , but I replaced that engine with a Blue clone, that now has a header, upgraded air cleaner, torque tube and #90 main jet, and Yes im planning on removeing the governor and installing stiffer valve springs soon! so I m guessing the engine should be turning about 5200 rpms! I know a new model 30 would work, but before i shell out that kinda money, are there any other options? anyone? P.S. in the past I havent gotten much feed back on this forumn, can anyone offer a good suggestions?:idea2: :idea2:

Leave it without the TAV. It has enough torque stock.

What's the use of those mods without removing the governor?

Just getting a stock HF 6.5, removing the governor, everything stock, can hit 5,300-5,600. Then the valves start floating.

Don't go over 6,000 without a billet or aluminum flywheel. Even 6,000 is really stretching it.

make sure you can mount the tav downwards. i tried to mount mine straight back and had clearance issues with the head

Yes but the POS flywheel might decide it wants a new life as a grenade.

It will 99.9% not grenade. I haven't even heard of one exploding below 6,000. People run them stock at 5,900. Like I said, anything over 6000, get a ARC Billet or a Honda Aluminum.

Guys Im asking about a TAV or tranmission, the current jackshaft is broke in half! as far as the engine I know I will have to put 18# valve springs in when I ditch the Governor. I just wanna know what Tav to use when the motor will turn 5200 rpm instead of the stockl 3600rpm

Ehh... can't help you on the TAV, but you can stick with the stock springs. They float at around 5200-5300. Some are even higher. Just stop when it starts missing...

Floating springs act like a governor.

If you know of a machine shop that won't charge you an arm and a leg take the broken shaft there and see if they'll make you a new one from some hardened bar stock or something.
There's no comparison between a normal clutch and a TAV, only people that have used both would understand.

Lol and arm and a leg I get my machining done for free. And plus why cant you just go buy a peice of 5/8 cold rolled with a keyway cut into it?

i do not know a whole lot but i would go with tav because it is easier.

On an OHV wouldn't valve float bend the valves???

Yes it would, but if you're smart and don't floor it when you start hearing it stutter... you should be quite fine. If the valves go, just buy a 14cc head ($39 shipped eBay), new valves ($20), and reuse the rest of the stuff.

Gain 1-3HP right there.

Im running an ungoved briggs 5 horse with a comet CAT99 (model that the 30 replaced) with a 12 tooth driver and a 54 tooth driven(what came with the cart, stock setup). Im guessing the motor makes around 6hp with the pipe I have on it and lack of gov. Have you taken the drive pulley apart and greased everything?

yeah, I bought the comet lube, dissembeled eveything , soaked it all in kerosene over night, then lubed it all reinstalled, still has issues, and i lost wanna of the rubber nubs. I must explain that i paid $250 for the cart, it was beat down pretty bad, ya know baleing wire and duct tape stuff! did you put a stiffer spring in your driver pully? or just adjust it in one of the 3 holes?

I have it in the middle, it was set for fastest shift but I wanted more bottom end, it still has a bit of a dead spot (I blame on carb with no idle adjustment) but not that bad. lost nub might be the issue, it would probably bind up like that.
