Hey, I've had this same probelem with mine. What happens is if you over torque that big nut on the jackshaft it actually PULLS the snap wring on the other side threw the bearing and eventually it snaps the snap ring off and the shaft is WAY out of alihnment. Only torque that nut just a tad snug, Dont wrench into it. Brrr its cold in the shop Had to get these pics for you. EDIT BTW I'm talking about the tiny snap ring against the bearing, Not the one under the big nut.

Ohh yes there is a spacer that goes onto the crankshaft before the back sheive. You must be missing this peice. The back sheive should not sit directly onto the crankshaft lip by the sidecover bearing or else it will be out of alihnment like no tommorrow. Either buy or make the spacer.

Space it out on the crankshaft until the flat sides of the pullies are in line with each other. The belt you run has a beveled edge on it. The unbeveled side has to be lined up in order for it to work properly.

You should be able to put a straight edge on the inside (where the belt rides) of both pullies and have it sit flush.

I thought you needed a specially long crankshaft to run one of these. The other motors i've seen have no space left to get the washer on flat with the end of the PTO.
