It's built into the backing plate. It's not shown (in pics of any of their TCs) but, the sprocket goes on the same shaft as the driven clutch, which is mounted to the backplate.

Does this help explain it?

I got mine from http://www.bulletlines.com/GTC-Comet-Torque-Converters-s/44.htm
(well.. ebay, ah you know ;))
And, it was really cheap although I must admit I got a 3/4" version..
the 1" isn't much more though if you find an auction to bid on
(ebay #231089056403 for example or #331061012128)
So with a little patience you can have one for just a little over a hundred.

No additional jackshaft is needed, it already has a jackshaft for the driven, inkl the driver sprocket.

If I were doing this, the next two things I would do would be:

1) Find out how tall the engine is, then have my biggest/fattest buddy jump on the back of the kart to see how far down the springs will go. Will this clear the engine?

2) Find out what the engine block mounting hole dimensions are. Should be the width and length between holes. Will this fit on your current plate? I almost want to say the added WIDTH could be an issue.

There's only one way to find out if this is going to work; pull up the users manual and a tape measure, then grab your fat friend.

I have just skimmed through the thread, but that TC is rated for 8HP, no matter what their website says. It is a copy of a comet 30 series. It will be able to handle 9HP, but you will go through belts pretty fast

Then what should I use?

The only real option you have is a comet 40 series TC, which is rated up to 18HP. It is a lot more expensive than the other one, but it handles the power better.

Because it is expensive, and if you don't want to spend the money, you could use the other one you had linked, but I would gear a bit lower to make sure you don't go through belts so fast. A genuine comet 30 series would be able to handle 9HP much better than a knock off though

The comet 40 is what I was going to get oh I guess that link is like a remake or something I thought it was a comet 40 but I guess not oh it's just a replacement for one I typed comet 40 in and got that. Oh we'll just have to spend a lol bit more money on one. Thanks for noticing

A comet 40 series will not have a backing plate

Hold up Paul: True, the units in the links are not 40 series but, if you look at the link Michael posted, it has a choice of 3/4" bore or 1" bore; the 1" bore are rated to 13hp; the same applies for the ones I posted...

Perhaps GTC decided to incorporate a low end 40 series into the Tav2 design

Maybe....but it would be the first that I hear about it. You do get 1" bore 30 series as well. There have been so many misleading adverts regarding TC ratings, that it is best to take them with a pinch of salt

I can't find the thread now, but I remember a few years ago there was an issue with GTC not being too truthfull

Being that the 420cc Predator is 13hp, you'll prabably be safe; the worst that will happen is you'll chew belts a bit quicker...
