Glad you kept at it. 🍻

Spring set $20 carb rebuild kit $20 (a waste of time money and effort, never run well until I put the new carb on) countless hours later the Kart is running as it should! Thanks for all the help, references, etc.

Well the carbs are not rocket science but they all suffer from neglect and stale gasoline. No telling what issues you had with it, maybe main jet clogged (easy fix by rodding it out with thin copper wire). Keep the old carb and tinker with it.

Often times a parts cannon assault (throwing all new parts at it) on an engine will fix it. Nuff said.

Anyone know anything about the sponge like material present in my gas tank? I assume it is to help prevent spills.

My old cap on the tank has 3 vent holes in it, but no one way valve, so the cart always smells like gas when you walk up to it. I have seen on the inside of gas caps in the past a barrier large enough to cover the opening of the tank when the cap is in place. This Kart does not have one. The Kart has the 5HP B&S engine.

I think the sponge material sometimes comes with a plastic grid thing that is nestled in the top of the tank. I think these two things are meant to remedy sloshing like WTR said but it might be due to a larger problem....

I think that problem is the fuel cap because it is a push-turn style and can be a bit leaky. The older tanks are better because they have a raised filler neck and a threaded cap. Found something on that:

I read the settlement agreement document (link is halfway down on the second site) and it mentions something about a check valve as the remedy. I might have to go down that rabbit hole.

I have a roto-tiller with the same engine as yours sitting in the garage right now with a 1/3 of a tank in it (so irresponsible--tilling season is long over with). It does not stink of gasoline. Just lucky I guess.

Congratulations. That ride felt good didn't it.

I was getting frustrated for you over here.
Glad you got it fingered out.
Yep. Was just tooling around my neighborhood streets yesterday with my orange flag :). I tell you, that belt torque system is great. Just like having a CVT. RPMs stay low. I have it set up for torque so the drive system gives me speed I would not otherwise have while offering max torque to climb the hills.

It’s just like a CVT because it is a CVT. :ROFLMAO:
