I mentioned this before if you undo those four bolts let the air out of the tire.

With your Streakers did you have a brake return spring? Mine doesn’t even look like it had one. It has a band brake. Thanks man.

this is the only picture I have I think that could help you. There is supposed to be a spring against a small piece on the frame and a small locking collar on the other side. and the locking collar compresses the spring.

Update: Today much time was spent prepping. The first round of wire wheel sanding happened, only the top side, more will be done soon. But the bulk of my time was spent removing stickers.Yep some progress.I also found the original paint color, I'm rethinking the gloss apple red, I might go a bit darker. thepartsguy, this is the brake rod, no evidence of that spring. The throttle side has one identical to yours though.

@Thepartsguy, when do your streakers get sketchy in the steering. Speed wise. The whole zero caster angle thing means it probably wanders quite a bit at speed, and you're the guy who gets up the the highest that I know. I doubt I'll go that fast, just wondering.

They don’t get sketchy at all.. at least neither of mine do. there Is a reason I have two of the same.. I’m not racing myself my pops is out racing me every chance he gets.. and we always did get off the karts after flight and comment about how it feels like there on rails... edit: where side by side on a narrow backstreet for sometimes half a mile just floored. we have both said out loud no fear we will Chernobyl a k181 If it means winning that race..

I noticed that pushing it around, I just thought it was that was because one tire I let all the air out, and I don’t have an engine on it. Amazing how the most simple looking kart steers so well. The short wheelbase on mine also helps. My knees are next to my steering wheel lol. One day I may relocate the pedals.

the seat is mounted on slides locked with a lever then the slides are mounted on slotted frame mounts. your picture looks like the seat is mounted as far forward on the frame slides as it can go. if the lever lock isn’t stuck and you can get the bolts loose it might not be much but it could be pretty easy to free up a small amount of leg room. I like my legs stretched out so I’m not holding bent kneecaps up for miles. Edit the seat doesn’t look to be all the way back on the lever lock slides on your kart either.

Oh it's very stuck, I'll be removing it anyway, I'm going for a bit more restoration than you do, I think the limit for how far back the seat goes will be engine clearance. I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

Update: No progress today, and probably not for the next few, lots of rain is coming through. However, I got my screened in porch cleaned off so maybe I'll be able to get it in there to work on.

Update: yesterday I got the seat offThen the seat railsMy Evaporust gets here Thursday so those will soak when it arrives. There was some seriously mismatched hardware, some had used a flathead! There was also a bolt missing. The seat rails move a little bit, but not a lot. Hoping the evaporust gets ‘em loose.

On a better note I got the hub off. It came off with a little encouragement from a rubber mallet.

It looks like the bolts that hold the band brake drum to the sprocket? Can you pull the pin on the band brake band and slip it out of the way completely? Is the brake hub threaded or is it clamping bolts?

Also the bolt holes could be clocked Just a bit maybe? try spinning the brake drum and lining it back up with all four holes.

Clampers. I think I’m going to remove the other wheel and hub and slide the axle out. And it is the bolts that bolt the brake drum to the sprocket
