Just a quick question, I recently went to a mower shop asking about new two stroke motors, and the guy said nobody is still making them, due to invoronmetal issues and that there are no us companies still making them, is this true?
Won't there always be a use for two stroke mower motors, or will they eventualy fade away?:nopity:

Plenty, that guy is full of BS.

Stock form, 3.5HP from 29cc's. :D

Stock form, 4.2HP from 45cc's... well over 8-10 modified P:

2 strokes will never be obsolete. They're shunned due to emissions...

What about the big name companies b&s, tecumseh etc? I don't want to have to pay $600 usd for a 6.5hp motor (US 820 motor), I want to be able to go and buy a lawn mower motor or something cheaper. A fiew years ago when I was mowing lawns for a living, I needed to do a lot of mowing on slopes, I was told by my repair man that a 4 stroke was no good as it could starve for oil, and that I needed a two stroke. ten minutes later I was the proud owner of a new masport 3.5hp 2 stroke for about $250usd
I wanted the same thing again but the guy said that if I am lucky there might still be one company still making them but he wasn't sure, it was a different shop though.

I believe that Briggs & Stratton still manufactures them. Known as "R*Tek".
I bought 2 of them a couple years ago for about $120 a piece. Best I could get out of them was around 40 mph.

Tecumseh is finished.

BUGGER, it will be a sad day the day we can't buy a two stroke mower. Tecumseh must have stoped recently, as I am chasing up a two stroke tecumseh motor left over from a closed down store, nos a couple of years old.
Guess we still have chainsws, they have to be two strokes.

Not according to website...when last I looked.

My hope was restored, then taken away just as quickly lol.
Then it looks to be true, if you like two strokes then time could be running out:mad2:

However this guy is selling masports http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=297210746&permanent=0
Maybe just some of the companies are stopping production due to reduced demand?

Guess there is still the chainsaw, a lot of vintage karters use them http://www.rearenginekarts.com/apache-super55.htm

I should make it clear, I am not having a problem finding a two stroke second hand, I just want to know what people think. If all the companies are realy bailing out of the two banger or not.

You had me worried for a second there! There are 2 stokes still on their website. There's probably enough stock still left in Australia to keep us going for e few decades anyway lol. Not that the Power Torque engine is a very special item though..

WOW, thanks man, they are exactly what I am after.......

hehehe, not realy, your deal is safe:thumbsup:

have you taken a look under villiers on TM? they are always comming up (the little two strokes), might be ok for a kart?

Those Victa engines are the best kind, their points ignition so they rev higher than the other Victa models (I don't know why but the points ones certainly seem to rev higher) and are full crank. They've probably got G3 carbies so you don't have to find something to replace the hunk of crap G4 carb that most of them have.

Thanks

Hayden

Hey Russ question for you...what would you compare the torque of a 5hp 2 stroke to in 4 stroke??? and also how many rps does a 2 stroke max out at in comparison???

Generally 2 strokes have more top end and 4's have more low end. So a 4 stroke will have more torque then again a 2 stroke has more acceleration. You cant really do a general "which is better" since there all different. 2 strokes usually rev a lot higher then 4's. 2 strokes really have more grunt to them and sound fricken awesome. Also real easy to mod.

Well through investigation I have found that indeed victa seem to produce more two strokes than four strokes, and masport has the iron horse, and russ says briggs and stratton have a two banger. Anyone know what other companies are making them?
