I got a question, I have a 1" axle shaft and 1" pillow block bearings. But the bearings don't just slide over the shaft.
Why? Should I have got bigger bearings?
I am thinking maybe doing a build another time for a kart for me and the wife so we can go karting with the boys. Maybe.
Make sure the ends haven't gotten dinged up in shipping/ handling. Next, do you have a set of calipers? If you don't, do you know someone who might? The chances of a miss match, size wise, are pretty small if you ordered the matl. from the same vendor, but it could happen. Also, if the tolerances are right, the bearings aren't supposed to fall onto the shafts.
Next, give the keyway on the shaft the finger test; if, when you rub your finger around the outside of the shaft toward the keyway, does it catch at the edge, like there is a burr? If so, try taking a fine pitch file and file the burr away. You don't want to go overboard.
If the shaft size and the bore on the bearings are correct, the above should take care of the problem.
Hope this helps!! Pat H.
