Sprocket Upgrade

Hey guys.
I have worn out sprockets way before their time.
I'm on my second motor sprocket and about to get a new
axle sprocket.
Please see the picture I have attached, note the shark toothing
of the teeth.
This is an electric gokart so I have loads of torque. That may be part of the problem. My sprockets are 16 and 48 teeth.
The sprockets are steel purchased at Mcmaster Carr.

I see most gokarts sprockets for sale are aluminum. Although I haven't looked at most . Seems like aluminum would do worse than steel.
I want to get some sprockets that won't look like my picture
after a couple of weeks.

You could try to get a thicker chain/sprocket. What chain are you running right now.

NO! no! just riding, oh ok, a few donuts. Ya, I'm thinking about
a larger chain and sprocket number.

did you use a GOLFCART motor and speed control??

YOU are puttin down some Torque right there.. you have 320lbs worth of battery and from a dead stop SPINS OUT..

Usually worn sprockets are caused by dirt on the chain or sprockets acting as an abrasive medium.

to much torque. Thats nothing compared to what ive seen. A freind had some rediculous banshee that has totally ruind the sprocket. The teech were bent all in one directions. Its crazy to imagine what kind of torque was put down.

How long does it last on a charge???

The batteries I have are taken from junked cars and are not good, they only lasted about 30 minutes before we recharge.
The plan is to get new larger deep cycle batteries when we get the kart put back together.

The motor was surplus from a military lift of some type,
I found the controller online, someone bought it for their golfcart and it was the wrong one.

The batteries aren't quite that heavy, I'm guessing about 160LBS. But that is the next decision, I can buy a series 24, 27 or a series 29 batteries for the cart. The higher amp/hr battery will last longer but also adds a lot of weight.

We have had a lot of fun with it, I say "we" my 15 yr old son helps with some of the work. As someone else said "I built it for my kid" Ya right!
