Hey guys how u all doin. Ive been stickin to my kart i have now fr about 8 months now and its gettin a little boring...its a bosignore race kart frame which im not a fan of because its WAY to close to the ground(maybe an inch off) and im in the mood for more of a off rad style cart with a fixed suspension. Are the Black widow plans worth it/decent or should i try something else. I am a beginner welder with very minimal experiance and need a pretty simple kart to build. If you guys have any plans you find simpler and more fun give me a heads up

Do not get Spider Kart's plans. Go with Edge Buggies. They have some simple plans that are extremely well made up. I have a Black Widow as my current project and I'm not totally satisfied. The plans are pretty good, but their forums are dead and the admin/owner is AWOL. Also, for anyone maybe building this, lengthen your frame a foot. You won't be disappointed.

EDIT: I went and checked out Edge's site, www.edge.au.com, and found that all necessary parts are available for sale on their site. This would be nice for parts like the A-arms knowing that the geometry and size is correct.

I have a set of edge plans, their brilliant! Edge stuff is quite expensive but it's also the best of the best. I have an axle for a Fun Kart 3 that I bought from them and you couldn't get a stronger, higher quality axle. It's 4140 chromoly steel and has hubs machined from billet steel, the welds are art too! It cost a fair bit but **** it's worth it.

A little bit of advice. If your going to buy the Trax 2 plans then just buy the Fun Kart 3 ones, the Trax 2 is just a Fun Kart 3 with a roll cage. Also, the front 2/3rds of a Sidewinder is the same as a Piranha so you can build a Sidewinder and when the speed bug bite you can cut the axle off and make the IRS in it's place.

Thanks

Hayden

Thnks guys for the advice...and yes be fixed suspension i mean no suspension...just straight kart. The reason i dont want something to complicated is because i have an angle grinder with many a different kind of disks and an arc welder... Cant bend anything or stuff like that

I have them. How tall are you? I'm 5' 8" and would like to have another foot of length in the frame. Also, add an inch or two on each side of the front "bumper" piece outside of A-28. This will allow for tie rod clearance and Ackerman. Make MF-56 about 70" long and you won't be dissatisfied. Since it's 2x3, it's plenty strong. The angles will have to be reworked but that can be estimated and weld filled in.

None worth looking at. It's a slow process, I get like 30 min a day at school. Not nearly enough. :( I'll get some on Tuesday.

thnx....im around 5'9" so yea. But is it like to short even at the farthest seating position? im not a very good welder(just bought my first one today :)) and im not very patient with measurements. Is it like way to short for you or is it just not as comfortable as can be....Also im thinking of making the crossbars angled back further and making a suspession for the rear connecting the front. Think it would work?

I would be much less cramped if it were a foot or so longer. If I were to do it again, I would lengthen it without hesitation.

Mount your motor elevated so that the TC can point straight downward, if you use one. Also, put a 3rd bearing in the center to help support the axle better. I got the 45" axle from BMI, btw.

well i have an axle from an old shifter kart i bought....its a racing shifter frame but old so not looking for a shifter...i needed a higher off the ground kart...and it has thick bolt on axle hangars which hold up fantastic.its 48 inches approx. i do not have a TC yet only a CC but when i do buy a TC i will be sure to elevate. And what kind of TC is good for a honda clone WITHOUT moding the engine? and Where could i get one. pref a comet TAV

A Comet tav or 30 series. 20 could work. GTC is getting good reviews so far.

Here's the kart. I don't think that the photos do it any justice to how short it is. Just believe me on that one. LOL. And I sandblasted my prehistoric TC. Well, most of it, but the sandblaster stopped feeding sand. It's a tempermental POS.

EDIT: Don't mine the "USDA Condemned" trash can. I have no idea where it came from. And, yes, that is a 3 ratio pulley in the side of that cart. Can anyone say belt tensioner kart?
