Hey guys. I recently bought plans for Spider Carts Recluse. I'm wondering if there are any modifications I should be planning on making immediately. I have a Honda GX120, but I may need to switch (the engine was previously used on a pump and the pump section has become rust to the shaft). If I cannot use this engine what is a good option?

Try to put some penetrating oil on it. It may still be a tapered shaft and thus useless but it is worth a shot. That is a pretty small kart so, depending upon your size, you may want to lengthen it, which will change all the angles and possibly other measurements.

if it is tapered,
1. if your lucky you may find a tapered clutch that fits it on ebay.
2. get a tapered sprocket or pulley (if one exists) and run that to a js (1 to 1 ratio) with a normal clutch.
3. have a machine shop machine the crank shaft.
4. install a new crank shaft.
5. make an adapter.

The Recluse is small, lengthing the frame is a must unless it's for a small kids. Even then you might want some growing room.
My son and I just finished a recluse, we used a 6.0Hp. robin subaru from the small engine warehouse for $225.00 shipped. Were very happy with the motor and it has plenty of power.

I'm probably going to grow to about 5 foot 8 inches (wishful thinking). How much should I be lengthening the kart original plans. Maybe five inches?
