Well boys and girls, I found this old bug sidewinder kart a couple weeks ago on CL in OKC, OK for a george and a half. My buddys' buddy owns a freight company and picked this gem up for me. So now starts the tedious work on restoring this ole boy. First I stripped it down, cut off the haybale crusher aka front bumper and blasted off the old paint that looked like it was put on by a brush. A couple days ago it finally got some base coat and finally yesterday got a nice metallic midnight blue (with purple pearl hints to it in the right light) shot on it. Another week or so it ought to be pretty near complete. Stay tuned, more pics yet to come. The wheels are hard plastic called nylites made in England, pretty durable stuff but now there 40yo. and might be time for some alluminum ones for racing.....Kevin

$5 a can, its that rust-oleum metallic at wally world, sticks good to about anything. The hard part is trying to keep it uniform around all the bends and angles. It took a couple cans. Gotta save money in some places and spend it were it really counts-in that little 2 cycle screamer.....

I do have a small engine shop. I sell Dixie Choppers, RedMax trimmers and various used lawn equipment. The shop is set up for anything and everything. I got the steering hooked up,pedals on,master cylinder and linkage yesterday.....Looking good.

Looks nice, so it sounds like you have an engine in mind. Do you have a vintage 2 stroke to pair up with the kart.

Do you have the original Disk brake assembly?

I'm building a McCulloch 91a(first overbore) for it right now, just waiting for a bdc carb kit and points. I can't keep the spark sparking-hurts like hell when it does fire(holding in hand). And one of these days I'll track down a H/A caliper for less than $100 or better one of these days.

Mt friend you just have to know the right people that have a 40yo clutch that is tapered made for the McCullochs. It does have a keyway on crank to fit the tapered hub. My blue printed yamaha kt 100 kart motor has a tapered crank too. You just have to get some valve grinding compound to mate the two together so the clutch hub and crank fit like a glove and don't slip.

Well I've been looking for the original hydraulic hurst airheart caliper and asked all the vintage guys that I know but they don't have one. I've been bidding away on the few on ebay but outbid everytime in the last seconds. I'm thinking of just getting a new mcp caliper for $68. They still make the H/A but its $175 and I'm not paying that much. I ordered the front tires and the guy told me it's going to be 2-3 weeks. It usually only takes a couple days. IDK what's going on there. Rears should be in today. Then next week upholstery...
