As you all know we are currently in the age of computers:wai: my generation has really pushed the social media farther than many thought it could go. I had a thought randomly (usually these get me into trouble) but for those who use a social media site know that creating a page on said media site can generate a lot of interest in a activity. My thought was possibly creating a page for the diygokarts.com to spark more interest, possibly get more members, and a large scale site to show off the cool ideas and projects that many members have had and are in the process of. Of course I'm not a moderator or an administrator and I don't want to make decisions for a site cause I think that would be wrong, so I'm just putting this idea out there to see what ya guys think.

I haven't used twitter
But I know a Facebook page will generate intrest
Well intrest in the page anyhow

Yeah I don't know how to tweet either nor do I wanna learn. Facebook is enough haha.

But I think it would bring some welcomed attention.

Yeah I would create one but I don't want to go ahead without some kind of approval or something.

Its been done before. Type "Facebook" into the search bar and you can find a few threads on the topic. Most of it was about privacy, and how this site is better than Facebook.

Yeah I did do a little searching before and the one link I came up with I went on and they didn't post anything. So it was kind of a waste of a try.

I don't use any social media sites at all, and never will. That is just me though. This site is as far as I will ever go into the realm of "social interaction" over the net. I am going to leave the decision to one of the other moderators.

I also personally feel that we maybe don't NEED any influx of members. We seem to be doing pretty well, and it is not like we generate any revenue by getting more members. As a moderator, I just see more problems with lots of members. I like the cosy feel of the site at the moment.

Please be advised that this is my personal opinion, and not that of the site management

I'm in two minds about this idea: on one hand, it would be a great way for friends & family to keep up with what I'm doing without me having to try to guide them to this site...

On the other hand, I agree with landuse; do we really need more members? I was just looking at the members list; there are currently 14,037 members. Now, here's a little test for you; go to the members list & see how many members have never posted, I'll estimate it's more than 50%. now, of those members, see how many have joined in the last two years... Do we really want more of them?

couldn't we delete these members with no posts?

Makes me wonder why somebody would join without posting - is it necessary for searching the forums?

If so... I think it silly for forums to require membership in order to search.

I am not too sure about this forum, but you usually have to join forums to view the pics.

Interesting. I just logged out, tried a search, and was able to no problem - except I had to finish the statement / answer a random question: "I want a Briggs and Stratton"...I tried "40-horse horizontal shaft engine", "powered go-kart", and ""dealership with complete parts inventory". Didn't work at all until I went with simply "engine", then it worked fine and pulled up this thread at the top of the list, lol.

Somebody might make answer to the "random question" a bit more obvious, lol.

I use Facebook for my Camp, it's been a good tool for people who are already interested, not sure that it's actually brought anybody "new" in though...

I DO like the DIYGK member map, and think it'd be nice to add good shops and parts places to it.

Having a facebook page is useless to me if there is an existing forum. I personally go not look for certain types of groups or my interests on facebook.
I found this site the good old fashioned google way which is where you find information.
Members on my other forum i belong to started posting their projects on facebook which is a big waste for the community.

Bottom line is i dont see a use for it
