I agree, to a point but, there's also a level of
disagreement.
[Rant on]
Being of the same generation, I was the same; my interest in all things mechanical was piqued at an early age, mainly because I had the opportunity. If you remember, I'm the youngest of 11 so, with 6 older brothers who were constantly working on their cars, I was never far away from them.
Fast forward 35 years & most kids don't have the same opportunities simply because they're not exposed to that type of situation, either because they don't have a male role model or the do but, said role model has no interest in that kind of thing.
There was a young kid joined recently who wanted to build a kart but his father didn't want to know about it; who's to say how many kids are out there in the same situation.
On another front, how many members do we have that we've had to spoon feed simply because they don't have the first clue as to what they're doing? Why? Probably because the interest is there but they don't have that positive male role model to help them along (well, that's my theory anyway).
Hey, I'm probably what most younger kids would call "old" too & I was raised by an even
older bugger (my father was 48 when I was born). Yes, he taught me a lot &, thankfully, I also had my brothers as well (call me lucky), the same brothers who now recognise my skills & abilities & turn to me for help (perfect karma

)
I had kids young; my oldest was born when I was only 20, the same age gap as there is between me & my oldest sibling. As a result I can relate to younger generations which is yet another "leg up" for me. I tried to get my stepson interested but, his younger half sister has more of an interest in mechanicals than he does

. The point is, if I didn't try, neither of us would've known whether the interest was there or not...[Rant off]
