Just so you know....my first cart after I broke my green machine was a shopping cart that we took the basket off, flipped it upside down and set back on the frame .

Since we were boy scouts, we lashed the upside down basket to the frame with rope, I doned my open face Evel Knievel helmet and slid right in.

Lets go!

Friend pushed me just like he was going for the supermarkets last pack of drumsticks.

He let go and I was flying down the road with no steering I crashed into a car, split my lip on the basket edge and ended up in the ER again...good thing my mom was an ER nurse and dads tricare was good

What is it?

Me is was being a rebel and owning the streets in a fire beltching beast....we built, crashed and modified everything on 2,3 and 4 wheels back in the late 70s early 80"s before responsibility ....to be 10,11 , 12 and 13 again....the Phoenix will rise again this year, this summer!...a go kart for an older fart....

For me a gokart is freedom. It's the ability to go out and do whatever stupid stuff you want (drifts, hard cornering, 360s, etc.), and not have to worry about damaging a $200 body panel, or destroying any other parts on a car. I mean, I built an extremely fun gokart, off a bare frame, for $700, you cant even get a halfway decent car for that price.

Also, if you have some open fields like I do, you can do all the drifting you want to, and as long as you have slicks, you won't tear up your yard, and no one bothers you.

So my question was to determine what ya'll would accept as a go kart...4 wheels and tires...any size?

Body or no body.....engine size doesn't matter because moar is...well, moar better.

Engine will be a predator 212, 213 whatever it takes....construction will be metal and wood..oh an plastic etc.

I will post a 2020 build thread request this weekend.

If it has 3 wheels it's a "3 wheeler" or a "trike". So I suppose it must have 4 (or more) wheels.

And it also must have some means to go. Hence the "go" in GOkart.

Ah, in that case I'd consider a gokart to be anything with a central structural component, propulsion module, 4 circular rolling devices to aid in movement, and a directional control system (seating is optional, but recommended), and also functioning movement inhibitors and occupant restraints as they're required for the buildoff. (I think it took me 5 minutes to come up with those names.)

You're right. I could have sworn seatbelts were on that list, but they aren't.

BUT...mine will have a seat belt and "roll over protection***"...so I can get TN slow or medium speed vehicle tag

I've got a convertible 4x4 and wish it did have a cage, but it does still have some protection, the over head frame that holds the top is heavily reinforced compared to its hardtop version, which I also have.
