have you upgraded your valve springs? if you use the permatex, let it cure off first. if it is still wet when you put the cover on, it will make a mess and could foul the engine from the inside.

I dont know if you have one near you, but tractor supply co. sells "cut a gasket". Yeah you have to take the case apart and trace the cover, but they work excellent. Never had a problem in 2 years of fixing these little beasts. Infact my exacto knife is right beside me 8]

it is recommended on most if not all engines to put heavier springs on after removing the governor. if going the paper gasket material way, i would suggest buying a set of hole punches, really handy for relieving the bolt holes. if the material is thick enough, you can hold it to your piece and tap around the edges to cut it. the tapping only works on the outside. it can be a pain (the inside), so have patience.

yeah, I actually just use a hole puncher, its a tiny bit small, but if you torque right it doesnt matter. Never tried that tapping thing. might do that next time. *edit* dont try to use the cork stuff that they sell, it really sucks for small stuff.

I find on some Tecumseh's they often have a crank shim and if you really want to use liquid sealant you will have to remove the shim to allow 0.10" crank end play is ideal. But I always use a side cover gasket with a bit of RTV black sealer.

also with Kenny and Tyler on this one. Endplay is often overlooked and would definably go with OEM since they are only like $2 bucks. I've bought several of them and they are still available.

where do you get them for 2 dollars? the problem is i dont know what motor i have. i hate to order one for the wrong engine. I know i have a 6hp, but i guess they made diff. ones.

On a beater motor I would usually do a oil imprent of the side cover on some cereal box cardboard and carefully cut around the oil imprent and use a punch and cut the holes.

i always used some rtv sealer for gaskets and you can just heat the springs up and that will make them have stronger tension
