Well, not every kid is the same. There's young kids out there that can handle high horsepower with aplomb and race competitively, getting into motorsports at a young age. They are a small percentage of the population. Then there's the ones who lack the brain, body and fine motor skills needed for such feats. I think it's foolish to assume every kid is just like you were.

It's just humorous for us because we haven't seen Spindles on a working go kart yet and now he wants to "graduate" to a mini bike.

I thought he had a few karts that he was familiar with.

You should put a straight pipe on that engine, so you can see into the exhaust port. Then, a fire you will see.

Minibikes are dangerous at that speed. My MB200 is the only one I know of being able to handle 45 (balls to the wall, downhill, on asphalt), and while my DB30 can hit just under that has NO steering and NO brakes to handle it. In fact, braking is a huge concern as most minibikes have just one rear brake.

I ended up buying my XT250 at that point and road riding. Took it on trails too, but kissing trees was not on my list so never went too fast.

Minibike are dangerous, but I would take my minibike on the Highway at 55mph, if the police would't impound it. Smooth like butter.

I've driven karts but none are as fun as bikes. As far as speed though, the 25ish a stock preddy will give ya is plenty. It feels way faster on 2 wheels. Something to consider is that it's not always the gearing/ power required to go 50 that is dangerous. You can teach yourself to handle the speeds, gradually of course. It's just that mechanically, there's a big difference between 25 and 50. My bike had slightly misaligned tires and sprocket when I got it. Idiot me rode it like that for 2 years in the 25mph range. Worst that ever happened was the chain occasionally coming off. When I geared it for top end and put a stage 1 kit on, along with governer removal, it lasted maybe 2 weeks before the chain got all mangled up on the rear sprocket and locked the wheel up. Not a fun time. The bike has since been fixed, but I was lucky. Way worse could have happened at the 40ish mph I was going.

Don't forget your helmet. They do save lives I would have been dead long ago or at least busted my melon. Dirt bike helmet works great and protect your face also.

This pass Nov. 2016 my son wrecked his 750cc superbike. Broke 2 bones in his back, had a cut in his liver nocked some teeth out and other injuries. It was a good thing he had a helmet on , although now it's damaged and not any good now. He had short term memory lost while in the hospital and cant remember the wreck. Doing much better now. At Xmas I got a new helmet for when I ride my mini bikes. I'm so thankful he had a helmet on.

Yah, with a motorcycle its when you get into an accident not if you get into one.

Family friend was in bad accident flying around a corner in the mountains, went off road into a tree. Had a helmet but still got a major head injury. They had to give him a frontal lobotomy to release pressure and save him. He was never the same. He had a list of phone numbers and would just start calling everyone on the list. We would get 4 calls back to back asking for different family members all the time.

My accident was on a dirt road at night no lights (there was little moon light) 70's Honda XL75 (attached ref picture) with friend on back. hit a rock in the road and it threw me and my friend. He landed on me so he was safe. but i jacked up my knee sliding through the dirt road. Still have a scare from that one. That night ended up at friends girls house in my underwear cleaning my wounds.

My ct200u hits around 45 cruising along, it does feel scary because if something fails it's gonna be a tuck and roll situation. I don't do it often on the street as it has trail tires on it, but it's a smooth ride on black top.

I've done 30mph on a BMX bike down hill and that's probably where I'd draw the line on a bike, maybe 35. But only because the streets around me are 30-35mph with the exception of the main road at 55.
