I wanna mini bike so bad! I am saving up, but would a Baja suit me? Thinkin' like 54-55 mph. Should I get a mini bike? What am I looking for?
Upgrades? Geez, they look so fun, but i don't know other people's experiences...:auto:?

bikes are the most fun you can have with your clothes on... says a Harley friend of mine, I tend to agree but then he doesn't snowboard or wakeskate winch so I'm internally conflicted

that being said, I don't know how I survived my life without a bike or bikes

I love ripping my Dyna and the freedom it provides, but I also love rippin the 70's, the 50's and whatnot

I've been wanting to build a bike for a long time and I think the time is soon

Sounds like you are internally conflicted and don't know what you want.

There's a progression in varying degrees of small-engine-powered-vehicle ownership that you haven't taken yet before you can even think about going 54-55 mph on two wheels, let alone four.

I think you should revisit wooden and gravity-driven contraptions as a prerequisite. :p

I'm with Eric on this one..

Sorry Spindles, but as the kid you are you should NOT go 55mph on any vehicle you operate yourself.

Simple as that, not because I do not agree that going fast means having fun in 99% of all times, but that speed is about triple the speed you'd need to kill yourself in an instant when you misjudge a situation.
And at your age you WILL misjudge MANY situations I'm afraid.

Yes, build or buy a minibike.. use half the speed as your goal (say 30mph) run it for at least a year regularly... then speed up.
still enough for some serious injuries (and even fatal ones if you're in bad luck) but at least decent.

You think you want a bike that will do 55 mph. I thought that a mini bike that did 25mph was just to slow to have fun on, not so. My little mini bike might do 40 or so but when I reach that speed I'm praying that nothing brakes. I do have fun for a moment and then I back it down to a sensible speed.

Try this out, sit in the passenger seat of a car going down the road at 55mph, then put your head out the window. Now do you really want to go 55mph?

It might be way more rad if he was in the back of a pickup truck on all fours with his face in the wind and his tongue hanging out.

I got my first dirt bike when I was 9 or 10. Couldn't reach the ground with both feet. An 83 RM80.
I wore it out. Got a 125 and my little bro got the 80 after a rebuild. We then wore out our bikes again. They never stopped.
Now I ride a 68 HD Sportster. It's the same.
Nothing clears your head like a good cruise.

I musta been 3 or 4 when I used to rip up concrete with a drift trike precursor. Back in the hair scrambles days that probably Poboy and myself (at least here) have actually seen.

I think all your guys' paternal instincts are in over drive. I had a Kawasaki 90 at 12. but, 50 on a mini bike is unstable. It seems like spindles could handle a slower mini as he eluded to.

Well, not every kid is the same. There's young kids out there that can handle high horsepower with aplomb and race competitively, getting into motorsports at a young age. They are a small percentage of the population. Then there's the ones who lack the brain, body and fine motor skills needed for such feats. I think it's foolish to assume every kid is just like you were.

It's just humorous for us because we haven't seen Spindles on a working go kart yet and now he wants to "graduate" to a mini bike.

Dude, I know how to drive, I've been doing it since I was 18 months old(that's what mom says atleast) the only time I wrecked my old kart was when the brakes were too loose.

Just sayin':thumbsup:
