U-toob is a gold mine of vids by cats who are building things.

I don't watch much TV anymore. I like learning new stuff. The interweb and yootuub make so much information available so easily. And it is stuff you look for, not propaganda stuffed down your throat.

I feel like I can learn to do ALMOST anything with a few clicks of the mouse. LOL
I can ALMOST weld. I can ALMOST build a go kart engine. I can ALMOST understand units describing Oil Viscosity.

Cool bike. But isn't that Joe-405's "Mini" Bike. I never knew he had a British accent?:cheers2:

Why isn't this in the build contest area? I think this thread should be moved. Or has that been suggested already? Easy for me to say, because I'm not entering. :roflol:

I went over & read the build off rules.
Only goes to Dec 31.
No way this thing will be done in 4 months...not much reason to enter.

I chose this section because it said "project log".

I was kidding. It is in the right section. But when people slap a DIYGK sign on their project with the secret password to enter the contest, then the thread gets moved. Sorry for the interruption. Carry on. Very Cool.

Got all of the pieces cut & semi finished on the edges.
Still about .030 or so oversized.
Today I'm clamping them together with the patterns for final sizing, giving me identical pieces.

Bending the sides to the base first.

Clamped to the bending jig with the layout line right on the edge.
Angle pieces on the back side spread the clamping loads, giving a crisp bend & keeps the remainder of the work piece straight.
Setting the gauge to the base piece being fitted to.

Tighten the clamp, back off & check with the gauge.
Always have to bend slightly past due to spring back.

When the gauge reads good, unclamp & check against the base.

Got all the bending done.
Got quite a bit of time in them, but feel it was worth the effort.
Everything's fitting pretty good...I'm satisfied with what I've got, at this point.
Couple of the ends on the side pieces are just a bit overbent.
Going out tomorrow to get some fresh rod & such & start sticking them together. :)

Things happenin today.

Since I'm welding in a wood frame structure, I set up an 8 foot tall spark containment booth with welding blankets...ounce of prevention & all that jazz.

Practiced a few tacs on some scrap...I'm just tacking everything for now in case I need to modificate it in any way...still need to design, fab & attach the rotor mounts & the steering arms.

Got full pen on the tacs & the jigs gave me a very usable 90 deg corner for this type stuff.

Go clean off my table & set up the parts for tacking. TBC.

One down, one to go.
Next step...boring the holes for the inner spindle shaft.

I'm using more rod than necessary, by looking at the buildup.
currently 3/32". Try some 1/16".

Doing bulkheads & endcaps on the rod end pockets today.
This one fits real nice...maby .010" clearance on each side.
This end runs true & reads square all the way around...big sigh of relief. :)

These points will carry all of the loads from the chassis...reduced down to a small area. They must be strong & well built.

Twisting or out of square or other misallignments in these parts during construction, if I were to allow them to occur, would make for difficulty in setting up camber & caster capabilities for the suspension.

So it's gotta be right, from the git-go!

Front suspension.
Will still need steering arms & caliper mounts.
Steering arms won't happen until it's far enough along that I'm fitting the steering rack to the frame.

The rod ends have misalignment bushings in them which allows greater rotation of the spherical bearing in the center of the rod.
