Hi All,

Especially Wobbly - for all the help so far :cheers2:

I was hopiing to keep this a secret so you didn't laugh too much but anyway. My son and I have been building this during the holidays. Actually this is mk 2 because mk1 was all over the place and the welding was err.......... desperate. Plus the clutch wasn't up to the job.

So this is where we are at so far, apologies for the dodgy pictures - off my phone and a little out of focus. It will be about 6ft long 18inch wheels front and back. There are side protection bars to go in yet and some sort of bulkhead/roll bar to go behind the seat which will be fairly central. Design is "back of a fag packet" and very much as we go along.

Power is from a 6.5hp loncin engine driven through a torque converter. Will probably remove the governer after we see how it goes.

So that's it so far.

Hi r97,

The frame isn't going to be that long, i have just left the rear bars way over long until i decide on where the back axle fits. I had planned on putting some rear triangulation struts from the roll bar to the rear of the chassis and another triangulation running to the front, so hopefully that will beef it up.

Bill,

the yellow chap at the back is one i built earlier!!! It's a Westfield kit car running on a 1760 ford block with high lift cam, lightened and balanced bottom end and twin 40 webers. 0-60 in about 4 secs. This whole go kart thing started as i need to fabricate some engine mounts for a replacement 2 litre motor which i shall drop in in the winter and i wanted to practice my welding.

Grizz,

the torque converter is connected to a twin jack shaft arrangement, if i recall driving 53 tooth sprocket on the rear though 428 hefty chain

Not sure of "what it will do" when all conected but i have kids ranging from 5 to 14 so hoefully not too fast - we can add the speed later.

Hey Aidan, glad to see the thread and a few pics, looking good. Love the Westy, I've always wanted to build one but I just don't have the space (or money come to think of it), so I thought I'd build a buggy instead. You'll get loads of help and some great advice from people on the forum :)

Hi Keiran,

This is the best picture I have to hand, The filter socks have been replaced with an ITG filter through a hole in the side of the bonnet.

Just saw r97's link. Has anyone been on Gemini Karts. I saw they are in the UK but they have real Comet parts. :drool5:

Keiran,

2 litre Ford Zetec is the easest install. My gearbox will fit straight on, low line sump, 1.8 clutch and flywheel. Sticking with carbs to start with and then maybe throttle boddies next year if funds allow. Will miss the sound and the smell of the crossflow, but if i can get a practical 200hp it should absolutely fly!!

About 145 although i havent had it on the rollers. I should get a more usable 165 with the zetec on carbs and 200 from the throttle bodies.
