Regular high school, all we have around here until college. I might give it a whack next time I'm not working on something else in shop. The last thing I tigged was a seatpost for my bike, which ended up cracking all the way around through the middle of the bead.

I just spent all day working on the engine for this thing. Got it to where it will run a bit if I put some gas in the cylinder, so I spent a few hours making an intake manifold from scratch. Put it on, and both bolt holes strip out and it falls off. FML. No idea what to do now, there is absolutely no material around the intake port to do anything with.

What if you tapped the intake port (3/4"?) ran a nipple, tapped the intake manifold and bolted it down. Eliminates most gaskets and is unique!

Looking pretty cool so far. Questions, your seat looks like the headrest out of a 2 seater Manco kart, am I right on that one? Also, do you think your exhaust may be too long?

Yep, the seat is one of the headrests out of my kart (not sure whether you've seen my build thread here or on the old site or not). I actually used the other one as a seat on a radical chopper bicycle I built.

If anything, the exhaust might be less restrictive than the original box muffler. From how loud it is just popping over on a shot of gas, I'd say there isn't much restriction there.

I have this same motor on my modded lawn mower with a similar handlebar exhaust. It maintains plenty of torque for cutting heavy grass (bogs less too), and you should see the neighbor's faces when I run it:2guns:

I remember the build thread from the old site and you man, hope you remember how insane I am! That style of headrest is from a two seater Manco.

When making straight pipes we always did the old trick of painting, running where it popped and, then cutting the hoe when it stopped burning the paint as to get optimum length on the straight pipe. Was just curious, we've made straight pipes for dozens of bikes and always do it that way as well as making sure we clean up the exhaust in both the header itself and the block of the engine.

You can get the pipe at any hardware store, and same with the tap, tap might be expensive though!

Please, don't exhume threads that have long been inactive. AKA 3 months and a day since the last post. Yes, it's a cool idea and fun story, but it's such a random bump.

Your kids must be proud to have such a clever dad.

Woah where did you come up with this? Only 17 years old, NO kids or marriage just yet, thanks.

Also since this thread is already back up, I had acquired another mower engine identical to the one with stripped manifold threads, and modified it the same way as the first for horizontal use. Been sitting for quite a while though due to a massive vacuum leak and high idle condition (sound familiar? at least with this one I know exactly where it is, just CBA fixing it yet).
