It depends if u get the older or newer ones
The newer ones have a butterfly valve in the exhaust that is cable over computer controlled to close up at low rpm to ( don't quote me here) slow the gasses and make the extractors work better giving better scavenging in the cylinders and there by more power

Also the newer ones have a second set of ingectors that kick in at higher rpm

Also it is important to not that u must use the original air box as they are designed to run perfectly with the flow of that air box
Also the air box has Venturi s in them that change shape at higher rpm


It's all mighty complex

Kooooollll Complex but my kind of stuff will have to find out what kinda age the engine is, miles etc and do some reading about the airbox and carb differences lol.... Im right in thinking
1. Looking for Low end torque??
2. Which is a large piston long stroke, to make them harder to stop is one way to decribe it?

Jealous much, they have defo got the most out of the wee engines over the years then, (going by the cbr 600 1991 only being 100hp at peak,

Think i may have to buy a newer engine lol Although am still waiting to ask boy about the 1100 as they are not the best at getting back to me, after looking at google maps im sure they run a small village shop so prob busy busy busy.

Just an update as been a wee while.

Finally today's the day My 3/4 built piranha frame and parts is due to arrive any moment now. :toetap05:...... Cannot Wait to check it out, But strangly im almost more excited to see the plans and decide next move, look into getting parts etc lol

On another note i just spent about £400 on tools i did not have or needed replaced, so been making space and organizing my 'Cosey' Garage ready for project piranha. Most excited to get the welder fired upAnd start putting the practice hours in and basically teach myself lol Plan to start welding scrap i have lying, get a few hours on that then when confident very first build will be a Welding bench from a box frame and metal top(Not sure of type)

u want a steel top table
the thicker the better

then u can weld jigs to it along with any thing else u wish to hold down while u work on it

thats a pretty good buy up
what does 400 pounds get u?

Got a sealey mightymig100, A Sealey auto shade welders helmet, Gloves, Apron, Welding clamp set, Draper axle Stands, A Bosch 720W 115mm Grinder (i know Should last at least this project) 10x Cutting discs 1mm ,Grinding disc, 40 Grit Zirconium Flap Disc, 6 piece wire wheel brush set, Some Garage security(Alarm, Padlock etc)Not bad if i say so my self Oh and the new medal of honor for when i drive myself up the wall with a problem i cannot solve which has a no doubt a easy solution and Some Boring bits and pieces i have missed as well

I will be getting a torque wrench, and plenty of reading/reference material later this week..... Oh i Also Planned to get the Rear suspension Arms & Rear end housing plates from edge but was going to be more then $350AUS for shipping expected maybe $200 But hey will figure it out

id rekonmend u google National tool wearhouse
they are dirt cheap on everything from sand paper to an 1 rattle gun

if u tell me where in scotland u live illl dee if i can get then there for cheaper

i live close to edge and can pick them up and post them

although i bet if u find a cheaper method of post and give it to tony then he'd get it posted that way

Been a good few weeks since i posted last, and my photo/project log hasn't been very much a log at all lol
Past couple of weeks i have spent correcting the previous project builders improvisations,(eg. front top suspension mounts was just a piece of 40x40 rhs with 2 slots out of the underside for the eylets to sit in, NOT GOOD lol THings like this)Which have caused me such a waste of time but hey i just love making any sort of progress and is just presenting with me with a good old engineering challenge haha

To be fair my camera been Kaput Got a new one over xmas so i will take some time to post pics of all my bits and pieces i have done to the Buggy in the next couple of days

Hey yall an update and pics, about time
Got about 40-45 hrs on it and sadly allot time been spent working out what i've got/what's right, and whats wrong. Turns out alot of daft things
As its someone else's work i knew this would be the case but im surprised he has improvised and ignored the plans on front end
WHAT HAS BEEN ACHIEVED
Cut out sections out front end e.g front shock mount was a piece of 40x40x2 rhs with 2 sections of the bottom cut out and holes drilled for the bolts etc. So after that i have made all the front end supports/mounts to size also started moding some pedals from an old car, in process of cleaning the front shocks up, cleaned up the oily rank bucket seat that kind of stuff.

The last thing i done tonight i was dreading took off the roof he had made, this unveiled a prob that deep down i knew was there but never knew was half as bad the improvised roll bars (not too plan) are squint and also have squashed on bend.





Most of the 90% of the chasis is spot on, same with rear roll bar its just the front, so what do you guys think about using a sleeve and saving the bottom half so i do not have to re-do bonnet bars as there fine to plan and i would have to redo all my supports etc? should be like this



Phew that's the long post/update out the way and i do promise better pics and less words to read you guys haha

BIG PROGRESS
Well to start a new year i decided that if you want something done right diy. sad to say that the "Piranha" the previous builder had built was put down this afternoon.
FROM THIS

TO THIS

'time of death 15:25, Death by angle grinder and mash hammer'.
The reason mainly was apart from not being too the plans, i found some brown water leaking from the front corner, under investigation i realised that no corners were fully welded and this was seeping through an invisible crack on outer edge. He had cut angled sections in the inside bent and welded the inside edge

Cant believe i didn't realise but i am new and i was focusing on one prob at a time

Anyway RIP Your presence will be missed
Look out for Piranha mk2 as i will start a better log from scratch and get this done proper

Hope to use the longer pieces after a good look over because with this guy you never know lol but already ordered more steel, the rest Will be used to practice welding probably.

Its really set me back time wise but i think il make it up as i dont have to work out sizes and angles as they Will be too plan. The thing would have been a death trap with a suzi 1100 i. It haha

You could have fixed that by drilling holes in all corners and shot blasting then galvanise full frame it would have been all right I am looking for a frame if you have one let me know

Ah see, I'm a total newbie mate and I prob should have asked first but everything was out if even 10mm, so fabricating some parts too plan taking a bit of time.

Im in clackmannanshire mate like 15/20 mile from Stirling and 10 from dunfermline so quite central lol
yer offers much appreciated man wee bit far for that but in future we should go a wee blast in our finished machines
Good to see another Scot on the site and hope to see/hear about any projects etc you get on with
