Just picked up an old Honda passport 70 deluxe it belonged to my friends dad and he's a big motorcycle buff so I got it for free, wheels roll, engine turns over, i'm sure its gonna need a thorough cleaning

if anyone knows a website with some good info on this bike it would be helpful, im looking around on google

oh it wont ever be running.... the engine will but it sure won't be on two wheels and the wheels are going to a minibike project lol

that engine wont make a very good go kart powerplant, best to just leave it as a bike.

the bike will go 50 mph I think it will be decent on a shifter kart frame for my first shifter

The bike will do 50, you'd be lucky to hit 35 on a kart. Thats a tiny, air cooled 4 stroke. Not ideal for a shifter kart. Specs on that thing says it will put out 6hp max, you might as well get a 5hp briggs.

i just dont understand why it would be so slower i mean the kart frame should be way lighter than the bike and the bike my dad can barely lift up the front end (and my dad is a burly man) but I mean I gotta learn I suppose

krunch, keep in mind this is my first shifter kart project, heck, this is my first ground up build so I think it will be ok, and I can always upgrade when I want, the motor was free anyways lol...

you could try it.. gear it LOW might be ok just dont expect 60mph and laying black marks on take off

Better off with a modded clone or a bone stock clone for that...

look I know im going with a low plant, but I just wanted to try with a shifter kart for once, ok ok, a clone could be better, but heck, IT WAS FREE!! lol and yeah i'll gear it for about 40 that should be good enough for me burning rubber isnt a necessity...

BUT it has 3 gears... so you could gear it to do what you wanted

if it was me.. I would try it get a racing frame mount it up and see what happens.

if its geared 1:1 and its 5hp you can imagine what that would do...

BUT it has 3 gears so lets say 1st gear is 4:1 2nd is 2.5:1 3rd is 1:1 a 10 tooth drive and a 48 tooth final with 11" tires would be SLICK top speed 35-40

keep in mind these are an example NOT exact

yeah im putting it on a racing frame, I just wonder what size sprocket I should use.


But the biggest thing I want people to get out of this, i know its an underpowered plant for a shifter kart, I wanted to start small and build from there, I can always get a bigger motor

yeah..

it will work but you will go slow with a 11" tire turning 8k rpms look at that link
