Was browsing c-list for a cheap bike engine for my kart, when i came across an ad "free TS185 parts bike". I emailed the guy, my dads picking it up wednesday, and i should have it by monday. Its complete as far as engine, tires etc, i think some things may be missing, but the engine is complete, and not seized! I'm pretty psyched! I'll post some pics when i get it, i'll probably end up leaving this one as a bike if i get it going, since last time i tore apart a perfectly good dirtbike for a kart, i regretted it. If anyone has ever ridden one of these things, let me know how they are!

Some good info on these bikes there, seems to be around 17-18hp, and 70-75mph top speed for the 1970's models, which will be plenty. I'm really considering a shifter kart now, the last one i made was under powered, but hell it was still really fun.

I might also just toss it in my rm125 frame, since that has a nice progressive suspension system, and is a nice looking frame in general.

Well, "fun" is what it's all about, regardless whether the "kart" weighs 200 lbs or 7000 lbs. Count me in ;-)

My dad picked it up today. I dont live w/him so i called and asked some questions. Engine is complete, its a twin plug, he said all the handlebar gagets are gone (speedo, tach, light, throttle, front brake). He said the wiring harneses were all cut (****!). He slso said its not too rusty, and its heavy as ****.

Anyways, im psyched, i'll get some pics up sun/mon.

Well, my dad is retarded, but anyways, i was able to talk him through givin me a bit more info. He kicked it over, and he said it feels like it has good compression, after some explaining, he found the stator wires, and the cdi and one of the coils, so its just missing one coil, and none of the wires are cut for that, just for the headlight. Right now im thinking its a 78, but im really not sure. The carb is there, the oil injection system isnt, so im hoping its just the kind that goes right to the carb/intake and doesnt lube any of the bearings or anything. The tires even hold air! The exhaust is also intact, and the suspension is all there! Cant wait till sunday to see this thing.

Well its got two plugs from the CDI for two coils, and two places to mount coils, so i figured it was twin coil. Yea its just one cyl tho.

EDIT: after a little research i think your right, i looked at a bunch of pics, and zoomed in, and theres only 1 plug wire. I just seem to remember reading an ad by suzuki about there twin sparkplug system for higher efficiency.

Sounds good. Why do you call your father retarded?

Its hard to respect someone like him, i dont want to go into it, but he has done a lot of things that are just not ok, hes a lier, a cheater, and a wimp.

Kenny you were right, one coil, one plug used at a time. The extra plug was so that you could use two different plugs, one hot one for when your offroading, and a cooler one for when your really riding it hard. Sounds like a dumb idea tho, im sure the unused plug would foul on its own, so when you switched wires it wouldnt fire at all.

Gonna get it tomorrow, maybe ill even get it running :rolleyes3:

Got it, its actually in decent shape, missing a lot of plastics. I cleaned up the wiring, re-soldered one of the wires going into the coil, and it got a nice fat blue spark! Put a little pre-mix in the cyl and second kick it started right up for a second. I need to get the 2>1 connecter thing for the throttle and oil injector, then im all set to run it. got a good chain and decent sprockets, was missing some screws from the engine but i had extras. good tires. Overall not too bad! I cleaned out the carb, it has a really old ripped up uni-pod, so i'll have to get a new one of some sorts.

At this point I'm thinking shifter kart, because it doesnt look like it will fit in my RM frame very well, but i'll see.

So, what i need to get it running properly is some hose for the oil tank, and some injector oil. Then i should be able to take a spin around the yard! Tomorrow im gonna run into town and get that stuff, barrow some parts from my RM and git er goin!

Also, it had a diamond fire E3 small engine plug in it, they any good? the spark looked kind of funky on it compared the the NGK.

I would put a NGK in the bike. I've had nothing but trouble with the E3 plugs. Sounds like your getting it together. That pod filter on there is the low of the low end of UNI and I dont like the filters without the rubber boots. I'd stay away from that foam clamp on.

Yea i thought it was a home made job when i first saw it haha, its really poor quality. I tried to convert a 4 in 1 throttle cable from a sled to work with this bike, it aint gonna happen. The ends of the cables are all wrong and its not even long enough. Looks like i gotta dish out the $20 for the ebay cable :ack2:

Which do you think is better, K&N or UNI?

I figured out its a 73', the fender and take aren't original. Im gonna repaint the tank at least, its so bad looking. Then i gotta get an old pillow and ductape it to the frame as a seat. Also gotta change the oil, calls for 20w40. I figured out a way i can use the cable box thing i got from that sled, hard to explain and kind of funky but i'll give it a try.

I'd go with an NGK also. My Honda GC takes a NGK and my Rancher ES takes an NGK.

Also those Uni filters are good. At least on my Ranchers they are in an oil bath like area. Never had any problems with them! They do have rubber boots and proper clamps on them though.

I never doubted the UNI's, but this one is ripped up and cheap looking. I'll probably just get whatever i can find for cheap. This is just gonna be a banger bike for now anyways, i decided a shifter kart is a little too much to build right now, im in the middle of moving and the new place wont have a workshop, so i have to build one which will take a while as is...Maybe a winter project i'm not sure.

I've always liked UNI for dirt applications. So far I have a straight UNI on my kart and a curved UNI on my dirtbike. The Curved UNI from the dirtbike shop has a much finer outerwear though.
