So, I got the single seater kart yesterday. It's okay, just needs some love.
It's got a GC160 as mentioned before, and I'm not sure I dig it yet. The overhead cam design is pretty interesting, but the absence of availability for aftermarket parts kind of limits its potential quite a bit.
Impressed that is has a fuel pump in its stock configuration (just got a mikuni DF44 for the mini bike the other day... guess I'll update that thread at some point, I've done a few other things to it), but that choke setup is.... hokey. May fab an intake manifold to accept a 22mm mikuni, but not quite sure how much effort I want to put into this engine.
Would rather have one GX160, as opposed to two GC160's... which is what I have now. We'll see how it goes, I guess.
Frame is solid though. Will probably beef up the seat pan though, it seems a bit flimsy. Have to make a better seat too, which will probably be the first thing I do. Then put the J-pipe on and make a support bracket for it to route the exhaust behind the kart.
That's another thing I'm not diggin' about this engine... exhaust is ported the opposite of the GX and clones. I definitely see why these aren't that popular for karting applications.
Oh well, I'll make the best of what I've got, and keep my eye out for a GX.
I'll start a build thread once I start working on it.... though it'll likely be a long build, seeing as it's winter here, and I don't have a garage. I'll only be able to do things I can do inside, and that don't require welding.
