I introduced myself about 6 months ago with my vintage Go Kart find. According to "Sid" it was a Rupp and worth doing something with it!! So 6 months later there is progress on the project. I am completely new into Go Karts so had to do a lot of reading and searching the WWW. Thanks to this forum I learned a lot. Just showing some pictures how the Rupp looks like right now after 6 months of blood, sweat and sometimes almost tears.

For the interested: I basically kept all the original parts and cleaned them thoroughly or restored them. Replaced all bearings and inner tubes. Rechromed engine mount plate and pedals. Replaced brake shoes. Still amazed how many "old" parts are available. Powder coated frame and rods.

So for now a seat, no idea where to find one, and a proper engine. I might install a Predator first to have it running. Sorry for the purists!!

Thanks for looking.

This seat would look good and most likely fit. It has a wood base on it as well.

Nah, he needs a custom seat made by an upholsterer that has the front and side cushions, accept no substitutes. See attached pic.

Is the kart an A Bone? Needs a McCulloch 2-stroke, says I.

Hellion is right about the seat.. that's the style you want (and the only one you should accept)

engine wise, no predator please...
I'm a bit torn I like the westbend 820s visually better than the Macs..
but both are hard to find as originals (Mc9 or Mc10 or WB820 are what you're after really)
with ONE exception: the westbend 820 is still being made as a replica (US motor Power 820)
expensive little engine (was and is, new and vintage)
A viable alternative at least.

^^ I'M WITH THIS GENIUS! :iagree::roflol:
A Westbend or McCulloch 2 stroke is the way to go, but they are hard to find nowadays.
At the least I'd put an old Briggs flathead on it until you can track down a more original engine. Just temporarily.
THAT IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL KART!!! :drool5::auto:

Bah....don't put a Briggs on it....That kart is unique...

It needs:

I'd sooner install this than a Briggs:

Sid's just been labeled a GENIUS by a teenager.
Don't let it go to your head, man. Excessive head swelling could mean a trip to the ER...

Right on, brutha.

Amazing what a little finger walking turns up on that popular auction site. Those powerplants ain't so rare now, are they? The OP just needs to consider this kart as an investment.

But putting a Briggs 'lawn mower' engine on it?
The Briggs Kid strikes again. :D

BTW, I think your kart looks great as well! You did a good job refurbing it. I can only hope mine looks half as nice if I ever get done with it!!!

Hmm.. cannot open the tecumseh link for some reason *shrugs*

Anywhoo.. IIRC Briggs bought Westbend and at least for a short period the WB820 were labelled briggs and stratton (until they parted out all two strokes)

Still: if the tecumseh is by any chance a two stroke it's what you should consider first.

Since frankly.. any four stroke is blasphemy!
(predators are the worst kind but not even true Hondas could make that look any better ...)
even vintage flatheads won't serve you well ..
sure one iron L head is at least period correct.. but those were found on yard karts.. not on true race karts like yours.

Heck if by chance you find a 3 horse Clinton.. it's better than any four stroke tec or briggs or whatnot.

PS hellion.. hehe I know, right?! ...but I am; and you know it! :D

Nope, wasn't a 2 stroke.
Of all things, it was a 3 HP four stroke Tecumseh.
