Ok i need to remove my karts pillow block bearings on the axle. They are very slightly rusted on after a year or two of not removing them.
The bearings are fine and I dont want to destroy them.
I would need a 300mm bearing puller in order to go down that route, but one costs £50. No thanks!
I have tried a big hammer and I can only think of three options:
1. Heat them at school with an oxy torch. This may ruin tge bearings though.
2. Make 300mm arms for our 150mm bearing puller.
3. Take them to a machine shop or a car mechanic and ask them to use a puller or press to remove them.

What do you think? I am tempted to heat them but will they break because they have lost their temper or something?
Thanks

If you have hammered on them, they might be f-ed, equally if the bearings were on the shaft tight and you pressed them off. they will be f-ed too.
Heating a bearing with a torch is just too much heat, it will destroy it quick.
If something was rusted on for a wile, I reckon the bearing might be just as bad even though they seem fine.

me and my neighbor had to do the same thing, first we took my angle grinder to the rust, buffing it all out to smooth, then we sprayed it with tons of wd40 after taking out the set screws, we then heated it with a propane torch, and set it to fire, working evenly on the axle till it all burn out, well it was still hot, we had 3 people hold it, and took a small hammer around it, not hitting hard, but just enough to slip the bearing out of the rust spot, got the rest of the rust off, and slid it upwards, but remmber when you put this back together, anti-seize can be your best friend, and they shouldnt loose thier temper if you dont try to heat it up extreme, small propane torch will do,

Ok thanks, i didnt hit the bearing I hit the shaft with a brass/ copper bar and a hammer.
There is not that much rust at all, not enough to grind off. I might try a lot of wd40 and try again, it that doesnt work I will try heating them. If tye bearings die, i will have to buy new ones. The housings should be fine though.

Try burning it with acid. I don't know if it is safe for bearings but I don't see why it wouldn't be. Make a barrier and soak the rust in acid for about 20 minutes. Use Phosphoric acid.

I removed ones with a dowel rod and a hammer and knocked them out from the inside. Do you have access to an arbor press? It worked wonders pressing in bearings.

Yeah I do actually at school. I will take it in next week and try that first, if it doesnt work I will have to heat, freeze, or acid them off.
