Hey cool race, you did good! I could tell that kart that was leading had more power than you, but you were actually out-driving him and catching back up entering turns 1 and 3. Good job driving and cool video man

Yeah I race short track clay oval tracks. These 2 are about the only decent videos I got. I had my old blue body on my kart back then and I'm #11:

Heres the link to my oval kart thread: http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=6364

Hi Ander lead kart started in front on pole . I had to chase him down with brakes that were starting to go to floor. He has less CC's then i do and a lighter kart > I have a CRF450 Honda on mine. Track was real dry with a very narrow groove. I was going to just finish in second, but was gaining back what I lost. So I drove It harder in to last lap, and end up on his bumper. I rolled out in the marbles on turn four and put it on wood and passed him . His style of driving was just kinda holding me up .

Cool, congrats on the win!

So was there only a total of 3 karts racing in that last video you posted?
What engines were those other guys running?
What class do you race in at that track? (and whats that track called?)

Last video was practice . We normally have 6-8 Karts . For power on the other guys karts, they have TAG engines / 125cc dirtbike engines / Sudam 130cc ON Alky / Twin Yamaha's 100's on Alky / GX390 on alcohol / twin Honda tillers on max hot rod parts burning Alky and the Man In Black with CRF450 Honda . Class rule limits engine size to 500cc . Biggest event was earlier this year for UAS Unlimited All-Stars Open Class we had 15 Karts . And 12 for main event, I managed to get second with some of the fastest Kart on the West Coast. I have Been Dragracing bikes for over 15yrs . And did some IKF Kart racing many years ago along with some Dirt Kart racing . This has to be the most fun I have had in some time. And this Kart I am running is a DIY built machine.

Cool, the class I was racing in my videos allows any 4-cycles, but doesn't alow any motorcycle engines.

We have a larger 5th mile clay oval here in town: http://www.azkarting.com/ that used to have a very active UAS Unlimited All-Stars/Open Class. But now a days the only time they get enough guys turning out to run that class is for the big Holiday classic race.

My oval kart has a blueprinted 357cc. Tecumseh Star engine running on methanol. When I got into racing karts a few years ago, that AKA track wouldnt let me race in any other classes because my engine was too large. So I got kinda pissed off at them and started racing at our towns other oval track in my videos.

Most of the guys that I raced against at that short track used to drive Sprint Cars, Late Models, Street Stocks Or Dwarf Cars at Manzanita Speedway here in Phoenix. After Manzanita closed down, Terry Belcher built that track (in my videoes) at his house/large property way out in the desert west of Phoenix. He actually hired dump trucks to haul clay from the Manzanita track out to his place to build his track.

I used to race Street Stocks at Manzanita, Firebird and Canyon Raceways here in the Phoenix area, and know quite a few guys that traveled over to cali to race the west-coast oval tracks & drag strips from time to time.

I believe Don White and Gibby and his crew have traveled for the Classic.

I wonder how quick my Kart would be with a driver. That weight a hundred less pounds than me. Mite have to give some thought to the Classic.

Yes, AKA does not alow any grooved/treaded tires on the track, even on practice days.

I tried running the best sets of prepped slicks that money could buy at my little oval track. I couldn't ever get hooked up at that track until I bought my set of grooved Hoosers. I immediately started winning most all of my heat races and mains as soon as I got those tires. I did my own grooving on my left-side Hoosers because I couldn't buy any that had as much stagger as I run on this tight track. When my tires are fresh, my kart hooks up like its on freakin rails at this little track!

__________

I'm 6'-6" and weigh 235, I do pretty well at my little oval track but have to drive an absolutely perfect race to have any chance at all of winning. I let one of the top drivers from AKA drive my oval kart at my little track one night. He's only like 5'-5" and weighs around 150lbs. My kart was so much faster with him driving that it was simply amazing! He easily won his heat and main that night even though he was driving my kart very cleanly/conservatively so he wouldnt wreck it, but he could have very-easily lapped everyone in his heat and main event wins if he'd really been driving aggressively like he usually does...

So yes, weight & height can absolutely make a HUGE difference!!!

_________

I could be wrong here, but I dont think AKA would let your engine compete in any class, unless all the gears (but 1) had been removed from your tranny case. (you could contact the AKA tech director asking...)

I absolutely know for a fact that you'd also be required to have an ovalkart type body installed to race or even ride your kart on a practice day at AKA. (for safety reasons) I'm totally surprised your track does not have that safety rule in place too...

My Kart is UAS legal . You can run as long as there is no shifting done. I run mine in third gear on our track . With just in out on the clutch. If AKA is using UAS rules it should be good . I would still have a check on that before a drive out. Mid West to East Coast use UAS rules for open Karts .

(for safety reasons) I'm totally surprised your track does not have that safety rule in place too... . It's not a UAS rule requirement for body work . I have seen Sprint body noses and full wedge bodys. And have also seen full wedge and oval noses . On my Kart I run a full width rear bumper, and high side nerf's that fill all the space between front and back wheels . My front bumper actually higher than most sprint Kart Body work .

Yeah rules can still vary from track to track,(and year to year and sometimes even from different tech inspectors at the same track) so I was just kinda suggesting you double-check with AKA about everything before driving all the way over here.

All I really know for sure at this point Is: 4 years ago AKA wouldnt even let me run practice laps with my old sprintkart that had oval-style/loop-nearfs & bumpers, but no bodywork at all. And when I asked if I could simply instal sprintkart pods and front bumper, (that I already owned) they acted like I was from freakin mars or something... That's when I decided to (just screw-them &) race at my little short track where most anything goes.

But AKA has a different president & officials now. They're also prolly hurting for revenue and trying to increse their kart-counts, so who knows what'll fly now a days...
