i usally do circle motion but lately i have been filling in gaps in the metal got pretty good.

the problem i have is some days i can do slow circles and get a nice bead, but at other times(same metal . same temp) i have to go extremly fast or else burn through that gets me mad

the stack of dimes itself doesn't make the weld stronger, i can make a weld that looks like just a big old bead of metal that can be super strong. that said the stack of dimes looks good, and if you get the dimes its a good indication your gun movement is dialed in correctly.

yeah, its a great little welder, can't wait until Tuesday so i can get a gas bottle!

yeah there are lots of methods!i usually stick with the circles, but i like to toss around other methods too, but in the end they all seam to do about the same thing.

pipe, especially small dia pipe can be a pain, some days its easy, some days your beads just wander wayyyy off.

Tubing is the best to learn how to weld.. I take regular tests on my welds and i take pride in my welds.. Doing a $hitty weld because of laziness is a complete waste of time and effort and no pride in your work ( Do it right the first time)..

just ordered a few things:

-POR-15 semi-gloss black starter kit to line my tank with.
-fuel filter for mini bike
-taper adapter for drill press

hopefully with that stuff i can get the drill press an the mini bike up and running!

later this week if i can convince mom to drive me i should be able to pickup either a 40, 60 or maybe an 80cf 75/25 shielding gas bottle depending on what the student discount is. need to get some solid wire too. then, maybe over the weekend i can get some steel from the steel yard for a few of my projects. most important is the welding cart, then the welding table, and bench grinder stand if i have enough $$.

After all that i can hopefully have the mini running, and get to work on the go kart in the summer. my plan for the go kart is to make it a race style kart, and i plan to use my subie EX17 w/ a cent clutch. so i need to get some steel, a cent clutch, a sprocket, an axle, and a new tire/rim/hub assembly. i'm going to make the frame from 1 1/4" sq tube with a 14ga to 1/8" wall

then later in the summer, or maybe into the fall if i can't gather enough $ i'm hoping to make a replica of a Rupp enduro with a torque converter and 7hp Tecumseh flatty, making whatever i can from scratch of course! . like this, should be fun on some trails!
