Back to airplane stuff.
Heres an old timers trick.



Had a pilot mayday into our airport. Loss of oil pressure and shaking engine. Owner called it a loss and got paid from the insurance. A buddy of ours got it from the insurance company for a low low price.

So we pull it apart and find one connecting rod had broke, left the piston in the jug and self clearanced itself.

Heres the crank damage on that one.





That crank is toast.
So our buddy buys a complete used engine for parts. Have 2 make 1.

Today is checking this other crank to see if its in spec or not.

It had spots like this.



Got it polished out and mic'd everything.
It passes.

So now we proceed to rebuild this continental O-300.



Cam and case halves will be in the next few days.
Then we have 11 jugs to clean, inspect and measure to see if we can get 6 good ones.

Hot rodders used to do the same thing but with flat shoe laces. Long before air planes. Clean the Babbitt off that crank and fire up the old mig to fix it. Then just use you angle grinder to rough in the size and pull the laces out of the wifey’s gym shoes. Hone to final size with some 80 grit with oil.

I had plantar fasciitis in both feet. As you describe, getting out of bed was torture. I went to "The Good Feet" store that specializes and they wanted $400 for a plastic insert that was probably $.25 from China. Total rip-off aimed at desperate people. I went to a podiatrist and he sold the above inserts in his office. I stuck a pair in my shoes while in his office and I felt the difference immediately. 2 days of wearing them and the PF was gone and has never returned - that was 10 years ago. I have them in all my shoes.

So been wearing these for a couple weeks now and they do help greatly. Main gripe I have is, while they offer excellent arch support since it feels like hard plastic, it lacks cushion for the toes. Not a bit deal and its one of those compromises you have to make.

Really sucks that other insoles just don't give the arch support needed to get rid of the pain. And since this has gone on for nearly a decade without treating it, I am hoping wearing these long term will allow my tendons to heal properly.

It sounds like the duration of your pain may take some time to heal and subside. But I'm glad you got the process started. Good luck!

I have a yearly physical with my doctor this week. So I'll discuss with him all of this. Combination of the insoles, compression socks, fabric ankle braces, and a thicker pair of socks all at once, has helped a lot.

Also rolling a tennis ball under my feet as well at night.

I use a percussion massager like this. Set it on the ground facing up and set my foot on it. It rattles all the bones and tendons and feels really good. Gets the blood flowing too.

I have one for my back, and a foot one. Haven't used the foot one in years, but after all your foot issues, I will have to dig it out of the closet.
