Hello everyone, I am new to this board. My brother and I will be building a gokart and he appointed me with the electrical system. My experience and background with electrical components is from fixing and custom building guitar tube amplifiers, therefore, I have limited knowledge about electrical systems in this category. I did look up schematics from riding lawnmowers as I am thinking it will be similar.
I am planning on building a system where it's push button start instead of using a key. I've read briefly about solenoids and I plan to delete that if possible or do I need it? I drew a schematic diagram of what I think (with my limit knowledge) it might or could be but I am unsure if it will work. I am unsure if I should or need a 4k capacitor in that position, my intention is to stabilize the 12vdc for the headlights. I am also unsure if I should put in a rect diode in that position or delete it or should it be place before or after the 3 position switch.
The engine he plan to use is a rebuilt Tecumseh HM80 with a 1 wire stator coming out, and I don't think he is willing to upgrade it for a more amperage stator. According to my quick research online, these put out around 22vac at 3A., and with a voltage regulator, I am thinking it'll be around 12vdc. Will 3A be sufficient enough on charging a battery, such as a riding lawnmower battery, and power LED lights that are rated for 25watts? My brother also plan on swapping out the 120vac starter for a 12v starter.
I have attached a schematic of what I plan on doing. Let me know if what I drew will work or will I need additional components for it to work. Thank you
