Question: Breather Port - Hose/Can?

My new 196cc clone has the breather port in the valve cover. It's just a hole. No hose or hose to a can, filter etc. When running, it puffs normally and no mist or puking is happening.

I notice that many have a hose with a catch can. Is this needed? If so, why am I NOT getting vapor or any puking of oil?

Cause your rings are good.
Your seeing the piston displacement in the case side.
Your not getting combustion vapors. Thats where the smoke and nasty stuff come from.
Run a can or just put a filter on it to keep the bugs out.

The hose used to be connected back into the carb to get combusted a second time. You could just let it dangle like the draft tubes(?) of old but a filter or even a mesh obstruction on the end is a good idea. Bugs and spiders get everywhere, even if it's a dirty, greasy hole.

They make little filters that look like they belong on top of mini V-8s with a chrome top/bottom and the accordion style paper filter inside. Get a chrome one, you know you want to.
