My new 196cc clone has the breather port in the valve cover. It's just a hole. No hose or hose to a can, filter etc. When running, it puffs normally and no mist or puking is happening.

I notice that many have a hose with a catch can. Is this needed? If so, why am I NOT getting vapor or any puking of oil?

The hose used to be connected back into the carb to get combusted a second time. You could just let it dangle like the draft tubes(?) of old but a filter or even a mesh obstruction on the end is a good idea. Bugs and spiders get everywhere, even if it's a dirty, greasy hole.

They make little filters that look like they belong on top of mini V-8s with a chrome top/bottom and the accordion style paper filter inside. Get a chrome one, you know you want to. ✨🤩✨
