What do I need to do to get this combo to work? Its an OEM B&S intake with a PZ22. Should I grind on the area holding the square nuts in so I can take them out and use regular bolts? Thats what it looks like I need to do but I want other opinions

If you have access to a welder, you could weld on a flange that fits the carb.....

It's a bad idea to modify the carb.

Theres nothing I can weld to it, the carb is aluminum. I'm going to have to remove the nuts and trim the "ears" that held them in so it can bolt up to the intake. All the bolt holes line up perfectly

Well then, sounds like you have it figured out! It sounds good to me.

Out of curiosity, is this going on a flathead? In which case, what's the part number on that intake?

Cool, thanks! It may just fit a Mikuni, in which case I've got an easy intake route! Cheap, too....

Oh wait, they're like $40 and really short, I guess I'll just weld up an extra long torque one myself! :lolgoku:

Yeah they're pretty short but it works for me. I got mine to fit the way it needed to. The Studz Racing intake would've worked without modification but they were sold out, its a little bit longer than the OEM intake too which would work better for you. I dont understand the difference in intake length for different hp/tq

Longer intake tubes (and runners) create more torque in the low/midrange because the air has more of a chance to straighten out for a more laminar flow. Even building an inake tube to go between the filter and carb (like a car) will help accomplish that also.

Edit: ah! Okay, I get it now. Thanks Brianator!

I restored the side cover that I found laying out in the elements. Its waiting on two reproduction B&S decals to finish it up too. It'll look good on my ripsnorter :lolgoku:
