Also ... ask the owner of the property if you can use the parking lot after the businesses close. If he/she says yes then ask them to put it into writing along with there contact info so if the cops do show up you can tell/show them that you have permission.

I drive my kart around my neighborhood. The only complaint I've had is a man threaten to call the cops. That was once in 40 times though. And there is some noise restraints in my area, but I do live in the city. I wouldn't worry about driving a few miles...

Youd have a field day (no pun intended) on my property. We have a field out back that has plenty of little hills for a bumpy ride on a kart. On my soft golf cart seats it's still a little too bumpy for me.

A few years ago we had a mower we tinkered with. Drove it down a state road for about 2 miles ourselves. It's all dependent on your situation there I'm afraid.

LOL yea I have done that to, around here were I live in
the woods, we have gravel roads, police will not stop ATVs,
buggys, or tractors, on the gravel roads, but paved is
different, I have ridden a tractor to a local gas station a
few miles away, on a paved road, more than a few times,
but I stayed off to the side as much as possible, only
getting on the paved part of the road to avoid obstacles,
but one time me and one of my friends were in a local city,
and were riding ATVs mostly in the ditch and on the shoulder,
and just happen to get up on the paved part of the road
to avoid something, and suddenly blue lights, we both
got warnings.

When it comes to riding on roads it doesn't make any sense when you think about it. I mean, a bicycle can go on the road, but a tractor that goes the same speed can't. It's all very inconsistent.

The suggestion about asking for permission to kart on the parking lot is a good one. The only snag would be convincing the owner that you won't sue him for liability if something happens.

As far as karting on your on yard, hell yes you can. As long as it isn't any louder than a regular lawn mower your neighbors can't do anything. The cops might come out, but all you have to say to them that the noise is no different than if you were cutting your grass all day.

I can see were the db level plays an important role. One weekend I took the RLV silencer off my kart just to see how loud it was. My chain came apart shortly after I did a few laps in a parking lot and I had to push it home. Once I got it back on I ventured back to the parking lot on a different road than I took the last time. I noticed a cop sitting in the parking lot. I had never seen one there until I removed the silencer. Which leads me to believe the noise was enough for someone to call the cops. Needless to say I hauled A$$ back to my shop and hid the kart before they came looking for me.
I live in a military community that has a constant security patrol and the guy never says anything too me. I just try to keep the speeding to a minimum until I get to the parking lot where I do my laps.

In my experience there are two types of people.

The first kind are the ones who so long as they don't see you pulling stupid stunts and you're not making a ton of noise, they don't care (because really, it doesn't affect them so why should they?)

Then the second kind are the ones who see the little old lady crossing the empty street ('jaywalking') and call the cops because it's illegal.

Thankfully, at least around here, the cops mostly fall into the first category. If you spend your days fighting crack dealers and prostitutes I don't think you'd care much if you see someone responsibly enjoying themselves, even if it is technically 'illegal'.

I know what you mean. I drag raced my brother on the road, but never went down to the lot. I remembered that now that I have a live axle, pavement isn't good!
