Well, I'm thinking about doing something highly illegal. I want to take my kart down to the big parking lot about 2 miles from my house. Those 2 miles are on my dirt residential road. I wouldn't be doing anything crazy, just chuggin along down the road. Do you think they'll have a problem with it? Do people really care if you drive down a road?

nope nothings gonna happen. if its residential then your fine as long as you don't enter any highways or private property.

gotta say it's completly up to your local laws and law enforcement folks. Even if there's not a specific law, they have catch all's like "impeding traffic", "endangering pedestrians/motor vehicles" etc

You take a chance on the road no matter where you live.

You don't have a friend with a trailer or a pick up that can run you down there?

and FWIW B man all our parking lots down here are "private property" and you don't have a legal right to be on them if you're not there doing business or belong there. IE if the owner has complained in the past, the police can impound your junk and toss you in jail depending on how forceful they want to be

Depends on how the cops are in your area. If they are strict, I wouldnt. But, if they let little things like this slide, then go for it. Just slow down and pull off to the side if a car is coming.

A few years ago we had a mower we tinkered with. Drove it down a state road for about 2 miles ourselves. It's all dependent on your situation there I'm afraid.

I never see any police on my road, my only concern was that some moron driving a prius will call the cops or yell at me.

Well, if that is your only concern, then go for it. You will be off the road before the cops get there and if he just yells at you, who gives a flying hoo hoo.

I run all kinds of projects up and down my street. I Never ever do it for long peroids of time though. Maybe 10 minutes at the most.

I have noticed what make folks mad is the over and over around the same block all day long. Then the cops get called. Just spread your riding out and do not ride in the same area for long peroids of times. Until you now for sure it's cool that is. The key here is not to get warned by the cops. Once warned or told not to ride then the game changes. Make your ride quiet as can be if possible. Were a helmet. Some people freak just over that. A helmet will also win points with the cops.

Also I think age difference plays a big role on who gets cops called on them. If you are younger you got to play smart.

The parking lot will more then likely be considered private property but the problem will be that one of the businesses, who the parking lot belongs to may have a complaint. So dont be surprised if one of the businesses that neighbor the parking lot or its customers call the police after seeing you riding in the parking lot.

I would rethink going to a parking lot because in recent years people dont pay attention and are more apt to be busy yapping on cellphones and not see you.

Since I do work at a school, we seem to have alot of people using the parking lot after school hours (even after I leave at 11pm). The town police department is signed to routinely check the parking lots or if they are driving by they stop in and see why they are there. But, depending on what the parking lot is for. I didnt see where you mentioned what the parking lot was attached to (gas station, mall, school, store etc). If its abandoned and you aren't doing anything stupid that the cops would see as unsafe, then I wouldnt worry about it too much.

As someone mentioned earlier, having a helmet will keep you on the better side of the police man/woman.

It is a weekend, so the lot should be deserted. I might scope the place out tomorrow.

I lucked out with driving my kart at my work place parking lot.
I know the landlord who just happens to be into off-roading.
I can ride as early as 5:00am with 100+ db pouring out my pipes. The nearest residential dwelling is over 1 mile away....so...no complaints.
I see cops drive by all the time. There is nothing they can do.

i have a question related to this. i have a decent sized backyard, so if im riding in my backyard and my neighbors complain to the police. ( My neighbors are like yours russ they call over everything. my mom put a sign in our front yard once and someone called city hall. since they couldnt do anything about it one of them decided to come by at night and knock it down while we were asleep. we just put it back up. lol i despise my neighbors -__-).

so my question is, since im in my own backyard will i get in trouble for riding my kart in my backyard and making all the noise i want?? can they take my kart away or give me warnings??

Noise level and time of riding is the only problem I can see.

Your local government probably has sound regulations and ****. The amount of regulations where I live is ridiculous.

Sounds about right. I can shoot small caliber rifles at my house, but not my shotguns because of the noise difference. Even though, I'm not in a residential area, there are people who feel the need to complain. Whatever helps them sleep at night. :2guns:
