Well there are two sides to the story.
When I got a big parts haul on Craigs list a few months back, I stole it out from under another buyer.
Apparently an out of town buyer was gonna pay full price if the seller would hold it till the weekend.
I told him I was local and had cash today! and I still got the stuff under asking price.

Yeah well, i wasn't too far from this guy and had cash to go in the morning. I even told him this and he still said it was sold.
Anyways, back to topic. Do you think this clutch is still good to use or do I need to buy new parts for it? Also, how to I get this backing off the engine. I already took the screws off the bearing in the back (well it didn't have them)

Clutch looks fine, just weathered a bit. If it's not broken, don't fix it. Just use it until it finally gives up the ghost. Remember, this is a low-cost rebuild.

True. Just making sure all the parts are there. Never used a centrifugal clutch before. There's just a few little parts i need to buy and all four tires.

So realized today only the left side of my axle has a keyway.. Will that be a problem for the right wheel when i put them on?

Get grandpa to help as much as you can even if you don't need it. I lost mine a few years ago and I sure do wish I could get his "help" one more time.

It will be if the non-drive wheel doesn't have bearings.

Duckie: did you buy this kart as a rolling assembly or was it wheel-less like the first photo suggests?

Just asking because the rule of thumb indicates that you put it back together the way it was.... and hope it works.

If this is a live axle kart, I don't understand how it can function without both sides being keyed. Someone help me out here!

I just said it^^^^ the axle spins...but only one wheel is driven..that's why you need bearings in the other wheel.

Take the axle to a machine shop and get the other side keyed. Time's a wastin'!

Oh okay. So the side with the sprocket would be the driven side? When i stick the wheels on do i need to put bears behind them or just 1?

You should've never said that. You see, I came here figuring a wise sage like you with almost 10,000 posts to his credit would be all-knowing and have all the answers and know all the karts like the back of his hand. Imagine my shock when it wasn't true.

Heres a few pictures showing the keyway on the left and not the right side. Still cant get the bearings off. Going to need to buy a bigger pulley.

Sometimes people will purposely leave the key out on one side of a live axle. To help steering, Live axle Vehicles tend to want to go straight even if the front wheels are turned.
I am not suggesting this, just thinking that is how or why this kart was that way when you got it.

So you have locking collars outboard of the bearings on each side, am I correct? Are those stuck as well?

Looks like everything is rusted together but when you get the bearings to budge, you're gonna have a heck of a time moving them past the rusted portion of the axle so I would be polishing/sanding that.

If the every-day soaking of the parts in penetrating oil hasn't been working, I would consider the application of light to medium hammer tapping (ball peen hammer, btw) to set up vibrations that may bust up the rust and shake those parts loose. Also the use of a blowtorch to heat the bearing itself so that it swells (heat expands) may also loosen it, followed by more hammering in the direction it needs to go. Then finally, just destroy the collars and bearings to get them off, being extra careful not to damage the axle: cut-off wheels, air chisels, cold chisels can be used to slice into it or cut a pie-shaped section out of the bearing and just dismantle it carefully from there.

Yes locking collors on both sides and there stuck as well. A pulley might helli think. I bought some on Ebay so going to see if that will get them off. If not i'll try your methods.

Sharp, quick raps with a steel hammer might shock it loose.

I've never been able to use an air chisel without destroying everything lol.

Not you...behind orifice! Yeah...Jeeze Duckie...not only are the stop collars in place...but the set-screws as well??? Get your allen wrenches out....COMPLETELY remove the set-screws....spray the WD Specialist on it and beat the crap out of it tomorrow....(just imagine coming home from a date night with Poboy. and my face on those collars.....you'll either break your hammer...or they'll move....) ....and THEN ....(just to feel good)...you can burn the restaurant check I stiffed you with.....REALLY....I DID. forget my wallet.....shhhhh.(on purpose! )
