Oh, she's a keeper, alright! I just showed her the new front tires I just scored for it (details after I get 'em on) and I swear she was drooling as much as I was!

Got some pretty serious frontend changes coming this weekend.

I'm getting tired (pun intended) of these front tires. Cheap, chinese rubber- I keep getting bead leaks despite my best efforts. Yeah- I could tube them, but I have bigger and better plans.

I scored some nice 4.80x4.00-8 rubber on Thursday that I'd love to use. They're taller and skinnier, which should give me a better bite when I get around to locking the diff. The taller diameter will help with obstacles too. The issue is rims. All these lawn tractor rims are 6" diameter, with a 3/4" bore.

So, I'm left with trying to find some 8" rims to suit. I contemplated wheelbarrow wheels, and frankly- it would have worked. But sometimes, I just can't leave well enough alone.

I have a spare set of 8x4 trailer wheels, 4-on-4 bolt pattern. That leaves me trying to figure out hubs. Without being out a ton of cash...

Good hubs. Hubs with bearings. Maybe high-speed bearings that I can rely on. Maybe tapered bearings. Maybe... Trailer bearings! Yeah- what better hubs to mount trailer wheels on, than trailer hubs! However- the trailer hubs I was eyeballing, need to ride on a 1 1/16" spindle. I have 3/4" spindles. What now?

You're darn right, I am! Last night, I cut the factory spindles off, and cut down the trailer spindles I have, and tacked them on. I'll burn them in later... Talk about BEEF!

WOW!!!! What brand are those, and where did you score them?!? Was there supposed to be more to your post? It reads like something is missing.....

:cheers2:   Pat

(Even with the new rubber, I'll still stand by the farms 2950......)

They are Carlisle, can't remember the model name offhand. I left the post kind of open because there was more I intended to add... then forgot.

I scored the tires off a Kijiji ad. A guy that runs an OPE shop nearby occasionally sells things privately. I don't know the arrangement, but I got a good deal and that's all that matters to me!

And yeah- you win... LOL However- if you ever DO manage to get stuck, you're SCREWED! Bring your wallet! LOL...

Yeah, Dad buried it the first time he took it to the field; I don't have any pictures (before I went digital) but it took a neighbor's 160HP 4WD to get our 100HP 4WD out. If it had been just the tractor, he would have made it; what screwed him was the 15,000 lb no-till grain drill behind him.....

Try to imagine this picture; tractor buried up to the bottom of the chassis, 10' wide no-till grain drill buried with the planting end about 12" into the mud while the transport wheels are fully deployed (extended).....:smiley_omg: :ack2: :censored:

Now-a-days, when in doubt, he tests conditions with something a little easier to extract/ retrieve :idea2:.....

that is some mean rubber
would be great for our quad
what did it set u back
if u dont mind me asking

our best bog to date

a setup like this
a new holland t9050 pulling a JNR scraper
chipped to 550hp
first time use with a bowl of clay
dropped into a sand hole and got stuck
then on attept to get it out bellied it out

lucky our seeding tractor is a tj375 (375hp)
so that dragged it out after we got the front end loader to dig most of the sand out
also lucky that with further investigation we found a diff lock switch

good idea to test the ground first

Very cool. Never mind the lawn tractor. Those specs make that little 30hp Super Dexta seem quite silly!

Fowler- $25 each, used, but perfect condition. Can't hardly tell they were ever mounted.

Teaser pic!

LOL- BIG TIME. You know me well. I have already secured a better set of rears, but I have to solve some interference problems. They hit the box before they are even on all the way!

Yeah, when I hear coworkers bragging about their most awesome stuck's with their dirt bike/quad/monster truck ,all I can say is that you don't know what stuck is until you bury a piece of farm equipment......:censored:

Here's a partial photo of the replacement for that old drill; I'd have to head down to my dad's to get a full shot 'cause we're done planting. I if you look at it (LH side of pic) you can see the first row of openers (the round wavy disk blades). It has two rows of them, plus a whole 'nother set of seed wheels and pack wheels. One of these makes an excellent ground anchor. This photo (and the previous one) were taken in front of the farm shop at my house; I was waiting for my dad to get back with a new hyd. hose; hence the oil all over the back of the tractor, including the tire.

We're small change compared to your family's spread, fowler, but I bet you can still relate to this factoid; in two days we blew three hyd. lines, with the cost to replace them & the oil spilled out coming to over $550.00 US. That's why the bail of twine is behind the tractor; so we can pull the replacement back thru the frame.:surrender:

:thumbsup::cheers2::popcorn:

Good eye. I cut up some aluminum flashing to wrap around the bearing and threaded areas of the spindles to protect them from weld spatter while I was putting everything together.

dont we get an inside shot of how it went together
:toetap05:

i used a seeder like yours once before to fix some row worm
certainly nice and simple
no worry of air leaks
heres our seeder (or one likes it)
its a 60ft air seeder with points instead of discs, we use the tj375 to pull it
also make a good brake
once u start digging in u are screwed because as u make deep wheel tracks the the seeder has to pass over them
then the press wheels at the back try to flaten them out
and just end up pushing a pile of dirt infront of them
i need to go back home too to get some pics of all this stuff

Ohhhh... ok. I was tryinhg to think of a way to use tin snips to help put a tire on haha...

On another note, that new lawn mower I got with the twin, its something MTD. Im also thinking you are correct about it being a single speed rearend. I never bothered to look, but Tractor guys recent THREAD made me think it probably has the same thing.

I havnt even hardly scrutinized it yet... trying to get the engine running. Priorities. :D

BM- Yes- you might well have a variator. Very cool- I have not yet had the chance to play with one.

Fab- don't rush me- I'll get around to changing everything else out... :D
