among the 873 projects in progress right now is my DIY lawn dethacher. The resident wench here has requested the grass here @ MTL needs fixin. that requires a machine.
my inner cheapskate would not authorize a rental, so....
i built one, keeping with tradition only scrap materials and parts are used.
The 12hp vertical shaft flathead briggs didn't want to coperate, however.
l'm still tryin to unnastan why the flywheel key sheared off.

Engines do not run with ignition timing off 90°.
this qualifies as a WTF moment.

So the keyway on the crankshaft is buggered up from chewing up the key. As an experiment l am trying to go keyless. l need this thing to run a few more hours B4 winter repair season. Dont have time right now to fix it right now.
How well ya think Loctite would work?
l have some #727 and it is some seriously tenacious shyt! l lapped the tapers, cleaned them and applied a film, put the bolt in a torked it down.
So how long ya think it gunna work?
1. a few minutes
2. about an hour
3. all day
4.? what its fixed!
5. til it gets hot.
take yer guess and post it up.

A taper is pretty stout as is for holding. But you know this.

I'm bettin that they aren't using the same type taper as a 40 year old B&S.
I did take advantage of the situation and advance it a fuzz.
and yeah tapers work, ya see em all over the place.

Back to project #1. Both of my fans have been complaining of the lack of progress.
Ordering parts online costs actual money and a lack of disposable funds has occured.
My go fund me page has become awww fu** me page.
Now thas has been resolved and the big ugly brown truck has been making an appearance.
put some pieces on the center section to ckrck if all this junk is gunna work.

On todays's episode of Hack's workshop we delve into the bits and pieces of the rear center section. Specificly the hub for the 3rd brake rotor.
These hubs are handy for lotsa things including sprockets and brake rotors.

In this case it gonna be rotor. The M/C rotors have a large bolt pattern on the hub and can be difficult to use. Short story is l like these: 11.5 inch OD and 2.25 lD.
welding the rotor to the hub never really works very well, so l wont do dat.
The rotor has a five bolt mounting pattern on a 3.25 dia. (5x3.25)
I need to make a doughnut with a 2.25 ID about 4.5 OD and with 5 threaded holes on a 3.25 diameter. Prob .250 thick. Weld that to the hub bolt the rotor to it and all this mess has to be concentric to the axle centerline within a coupla thousands. Simple!
This rotor was the best deal l came across with 10 minutes searching.

I ordered shocks from Summit Racing. My favorite shocks, Pro comp are no longer made. I ordered these cuz Bilstiens or similar, are beyond the budget that my inner cheapskate set. So these arrived next day, and shipping was free.
Gotta build some coil overs.

Made some time to make the doughnut for the cutting brake.
went like this
find a piece of 1/4 flat.
Drill 5 holes according to the print out..
its helpful to drill the right size if ya wanna thread 'em. 10mm x 1.5 thread pitch.

remenber the map that sez where to put the holes? funny the DRO must not like its pic tooked.




threaded the holes without a pic. use yer imagination.
cut out a 2 inch hole for the hub.

then cut the whole thing out with a 4.5 inch saw.



as usual i get my head in the game, and l'm not thinkin about pics. The processor has a few bad connections, so its only capable of one thing ata time.
then on to putting the ring on the hub, welding, truing bolting and checking runout. .005
