My body hurts. Boo hoo. Years of a 80's kid jumping bikes, falling out of tree's, dumped mini bikes, falling bbq forks to the head, stepping on rusty nails that came through the top of foot and finished playing in a dirty creek. Working decades in a manufacturing plant that causes pain in my joints, roofing, landscaping and sales jobs before that. I've lived an awesome life and still do, I wouldn't change a thing.

Just my rant of the day. Cracking a brew in honor of all who work hard and don't ***** about it like I just did. :ROFLMAO:

Back to project Stoopid. :cheers2:

You just described my life.

And that drill with no ground plug and a hot case. Beware in wet floor conditions.

If
Lol Im sore all down my right side from using my 120v/10A no name drill, yesterday. I cant imagine that thing!
one of 3 things will happen when the bit dig in and stops.
1. The bit will snap off
2. If ya have a good grip on it will pickvya up and spin ya around like a sadistic carneval ride.
3. It will spin yer wrist around trying to detach it from yer arm. There is a good likleyhood your fingers will get smashed, up against the nearest object, with all 8000 lb ft.
If ya get a clean hole without blood, stiches or a cast, congratulations, you are a one of an elite group, known as geezers, old farts or old f****.
I have been hurt by that thing before so l prefer
"Seasoned". Experience is a great teacher.

I remember using my dads shinny silver plug in drill with an old drill bit to drill 4 holes for a Briggs motor on a go kart we found in the trash. Around 12 years old, felt like it took 2 days. We got it done though and it worked! I swear that drill started the build on my forearms. 😂

Meanwhile, back at MTL, the new hires worked on the rear brake mock-up. Did you know that the "mock up" is derived from "f**k up"?
Yer welcome!
These rotors are for the main brake circuit.
Another will be added onto the sprocket hub for a cutting brake.
You wont wanna miss the next exciting clust....
Errr l mean episode! Stay tuned!

Looks like some serious stopping power
I got to thinkin serious stopping power would be a good thing to balance the serious go power!
Last week a guy tried to sell me a running kart with a 650 ninja engine (running) for my 8 year old nephews to drive! :ROFLMAO:
Wadda ya mean "tried"? You bought it, right?

Off topic here, but l am relaxing here with a nice XO, when #6 (engineering) starts blabbering about some brake stuff, the resident wench is doing something useless, and the dog is sleeping. That is what i find odd. Over the years we have a few dogs, but never have l seen a dog sleep on her back. Anyone else have a goofball like this?

Not a good kart for an old guy who had a broken neck with severe nerve damage affecting his hands and feet. Mom and dad are a bunch of pu$$ys and won’t let the kids do any fun stuff.

On this episode of Project Stoopid we are addressing a decision regarding gearing.
Ya know that fun stuff with chains, sprockets, teeth and math.
Here's the situation:
This machine that became the engine donor had wheels/tires with a 26 inch OD.
The stock gearing is 16/46 or 2.875:1
The bike had a claimed top speed of 140mph. Weather that is accurate or not, doesent matter. Its way way way beyond what i need.
The wheel/tires going on the buggy are also 26 inch OD.
So on paper the top end is about the same, untill the weight figgers in. So even if it looses 40mph its still too much.
Here is where it gets ,interesting.
The original plan was to use the stock sprockets. Screwing with the final drive ratio too much is going to affect driveability.
A little lower might be good, given the extra pork we be hauling 'round.
So l got a 15 tooth drive sprocket.
The driven sprocket has to be replaced cuz i cant find a piece of material to make a hub outta. The OEM hub/sprocket is, well i need a piece of material 7" OD x 3/8 for a flange and mo thicker stuff for a hub.
So plan B:
This hub.
https://www.nitrochain.com/1-12-finished-bore-x-weld-on-hub#mz-expanded-view-1378803706043

And this sprocket.
https://www.nitrochain.com/5048x-weld-on-sprocket#mz-expanded-15view-479000988507

Choices:
16/46 =2.875 stock
15/45=3.00
16/48=3.00
15/48=3.20
16/50=3.125
So, since i need a new driven sprocket i can order anything. I'm leaning towards option c 15/48 for a final ratio of 3.2
That lowers the ratio a bit from stock, without going so low that the first few gears become useless.
The options for the driven spocket are,
44, 45,48,50 tooth.
  • I only want to buy one cuz its about $60 so l needto get it right. The driver is a special cuz it has to fit the Yamaha output shaft.
So l'll pose the question to our panel of experts. What ratio?

I think I would take it one farther and go for 15/50, given a 3.33 under drive ratio. The
3.2 you reference is only about 11.5% below stock. With the added weight ( I presume that the kart will weigh more than the motorcycle ) and the possibility of sometimes needing to poke along at just a few mph without over working the clutch would have its benefits. Plus with the lower gear ratio think of how hard it would pull from maybe 75
up to 105 by just stabbing it in 6rh gear. Death wish or great fun. The possibilities are endless. I just think a lower gear ratio would make it more practical. If 1st gear is a bit too low for some situations, well then that's what 2nd gear is there for.
