Hey K!
No, lt has to be solid mounted. There are four mountind points, just isn't practical to make it adjustable. There is some serious weight (4 cylinder) and more serious power yanking on that chain. and l aint yanking yer chain.
The best solution l have is as WTR suggested, and use a tensioner on the slack side.
l was thinkin a double rolller, kinda like a bycycle derailier thingy.
Obviously l can cut the chain within a link. Don’t know how much the slack is gonna be troublesome.

Take 2 sprockets and put bearings in the center of them put one sprocket above and the other below. But not in line. Make a tensioner out of that. This way no plastic parts to wear out.

Hey T,

Another idea...maybe, mount the engine "solidly" on a "custom" sliding mount :cheers2:

This thing is not like old school MCs with a steel tube frame, it now has a Monocoque frame. There is no backbone as old bikes had! Even worse it only has 1 shock! Trying to save a buck....
The engine mounting points are in places where I didn't even know was aplace. I would have to come up with something like a generator frame thingy.
So far the tensioner idea is leading this pole. Like a derailier thingy, where the chain has to embrace the S. Maybe EZ, with his advances computer skills, could make an illustration? Or maybe he's smart and avoiding this?

This only took 45 minutes to figger out.
The visible mounting points are illustrated here, I think there may be another hidden under the aluminum sub frame.

Just a note of interest: did you know that Yamahaha is one of the largest engine manufacturers in the world?
Just another useless bit of info.

speaking of useless information, l stumble across some purdy weird factoids from time to time. I came across this tid bit today, and its so far out there, l am compelled to share : (l dont make this shyt up!) l make no statement regarding accuracy.
For entertainment only.

  1. Chainsaws were first invented for childbirth. They were developed in Scotland in the late 18th Century to help aid and speed up the process of symphysiotomy (widening the pubic cartilage), and the removal of disease-laden bone during childbirth.

Time for a new subject!
How about brakes?
Now that the propulsion unit has been secured, and l'm feelin mo bedder, l'm excited about getting back at it.
I usually am thinkin about parts, procedures, plans and problems well in advance of actually getting to that stage. That helps with the confusion and mayhem when the time comes.
Todays subject brakes.
l started casually looking at available components. Haven't seen anything interesting yet. So far all l can find is the cheap chinese crap And the super expensive Wildwood and Bimbo stuff.
Obviously l need hydraulic stuff. Is there something y'all are using that falls in between the extreems above?

Miata? Or VW bug/ sand rail stuff? SxS parts
Maybe a possibility
What abowt the brakes on the bike for starters?
Thats where the rotors are coming from. I dont think the MC's are going to be easy to convert from a hand lever to a pedal.
I would like to find a suitable MC, while avoiding the fine chinese crap.
The plan is for a brake at each corner and one on the rear for a cutting brake.
5 rotors and two MCs. (I have 6, from two donors.)
The bike has nice big rotors @ 300 MM. (11.8 inch)

So when aimlessly wandering around the shop....Ummmm I mean I ran across some material in the shop the other day, and since brakes have been on the horizon, I instantly recognized it as material suitable for the pedal box. My inner tightwad has risen up and created a fuss over spending hundreds on brake components. So to humor him we tasked the Design group. The usual parameters apply. Budget $0.49 time frame coupla hours. The design Dept has received the above mentioned material and after burning the midnight weed ahhh, i mean oil, came up with a prototype for the thrust controller. Two more are needed, but not to sure about the design. Its hell for heavy duty, has nice smooth, positive action. It may be the approved design.
The pedals pivot on teflon bushings, and the throttle cable is pulled by wrapping around the drum ay the base. ( that transulates to a more linear pull. Clutch probably be the same, brake different cuz it is not a cable.
Wadda ta think?

Today on WTF We have an interesting part.
So WTF is this?View attachment 156808

It resides in a dry well in the gas tank.

Denny, don't !!
Gas tank vent, emissions controlled?

I’ll sign off on that pedal system.
